The stones still put on fantastic shows at their age but I can't see maniccs doing this at 60. I suspect James will do solo work though.

I think there probably will be one more album after these two forthcoming albums. However the wait for it being released will be quite long. Then there will be compilations, rarities.
I see Nicky becoming more involved in the Welsh Arts scene. Promoting authors, artists and bands. I would like to see his long talked about autobiography appearing. Goodness knows we're still waiting for Morrissey's. James will do production work and Sean, well being Sean. We all move on. Nothing lasts forever. Sadly.

I don't know. He's said a few times that Manics is where he feels most comfortable writing music in and that he can't really see a point doing so outside the band; a feeling enforced by how shy he feels about The Great Western. Should Manics pack in, I'd personally see him take a more of a producer role for others rather than a solo star.

winding down? Are they? Taking a two year break but fitting in festival dates in between. Fucking off to australia to watch the lions tour and chucking in some gigs. Not only that but playing X Factor in NZ that looks like good old fashioned PROMOTION.. doesn't look like they're packing up to me. It looks like they're turning into the Stones ![]() |

The manics have never been close to splitting. Ever. The band are far too close for that.

I don't mean this nastily, but I really don't think they have the imagination to quit. They've been doing this since they were teenagers and they kept going after Richey, they actually threw themselves into the band more than ever. Their subject matter will just continue its seemingly relentless march into the mundane and I suspect their best is well behind them, but the band don't seem to care - and good on them.
They'll never be the Stones, but perhaps they'll be The Cure.

I think we are ushering into an era of truly brilliant manics work. The manics have been working towards something amazing since KYE. I think we are about to hear a completely different side to the band that is off kilter, delirious and off the wall. I've noticed that the band have become more inclined to not be influenced by other bands so much and there is a fantastic sense of freedom there now. I think after the 02 gig the band are not working towards a particular goal apart from the one they set for themselves.

The Cure suits me fine but too inactive. More Stones-like please but better albums

I still find myself wishing they had split up after touring JFPL. Such a perfect record to go out on. They missed the opportunity to end things with a bang so I suspect they'll eventually go out with a whimper.

This is exactly what people were saying 14 years ago, they'll do one album after Masses Against the Classes, that'll probably be their last, etc etc. i think by this point they won't split up, just take occassional two-year breaks (which they'll probably cut short again).

At some point Sony will finally give up on them and they won't have any interest in continuing on an indie budget. That's my expectation of how things will end.
