Haven't posted on here for a while, but the new album has got me more excited about the Manics than I've been in ages so I thought I would!

Some of these new songs are absolutely gorgeous - particularly 4 Lonely Roads, This Sullen Welsh heart, Anthem for a Lost Cause and Running Out of Fantasy. Brilliant stuff, love this band so much.

This Sullen Welsh Heart - disgustingly lovely. Contender for my favourite song on the album and I reckon it'll join the ranks of overall favourites soon

Show Me The Wonder - doesn't really fit on the album I agree but it's pleasant enough. One of those weird Manics songs that I say I don't like but end up enjoying once I listen to them eg You Stole The Sun...

Rewind The Film - yeah, yeah we all know about this one

Builder Of Routines - didn't do much for me for the first few listens but it's slowly growing on me

4 Lonely Roads - in the manner in which I intend to continue, skip

(I Miss The) Tokyo Skyline - fuck off with your unnecessary brackets. You miss the Tokyo Skyline. We get it, it's not complicated unless of course you use unnecessary brackets (unlike these ones which I'm using properly). Alright song but feels like it never really gets going for me. (Hopefully) a grower

Anthem For A Lost Cause - nice tune but a little inconsequential lyrically. I was hoping for something a little more stirring based on the amazon sample. I like it nonetheless though

Holy As The Soil (That Buries Your Skin) - brackets often indicate a side issue or sub-point. Generally, if soil is burying your skin you can guarantee that is the main focus of what you're talking about. Brackets - use them properly or not at all. Your final warning Wire. That said, very pleasant song

3 Ways To See Despair - surprisingly good. Didn't really think much about this song based on the samples but starting to really enjoy it

Running Out Of Fantasy - see above

Monobier - boss

30 Year war - exactly the type of song I've wanted the manics to do for ages. If this isn't the next single then class war is officially lost

Overall, I like this album quite a lot. Different, relevant, moving, sad, angry, joyful and hopeless. Proper good manics album is Rewind The Film

Having listened to the first three tracks in a row - I really can't see this proceding any other way than well - I just want to say, this is an absolutely fantastic album.

That's it. After nine years, the Manic Street Preachers areback. I did not believe they could do it, but they did. And no other band, for me, has ever been able to crawl out of that dead place.

Oh lord, truly good news indeed.

This is truly, truly good news.

In all seriousness this album is really good. Self-examination, looking inwards and addressing the outward causes. Much better than singing about your trainers like most modern gunk. Anyone who thinks they aren't relevant since Everything Must Go is just plain wrong

I hate that. Almost as much as I hate the misuse of apostrophe's.

This Sullen Welsh Heart - Beautiful and awesome. A brilliant start 9/10

Show Me The Wonder - Could have come later in the album as doesn't quite fit in here. 7/10

Rewind The Film - Goes on just that little bit too long but great mood music 8/10

Builder Of Routines - Love this. Interesting sounding 9/10

4 Lonely Roads - Think it'll be a grower but not totally convinced yet. Her voice isn't even that special as had been promised. Not sure what she adds 6/10

(I Miss The) Tokyo Skyline - This is the one I'm having most problems with. It just doesn't go anywhere or do anything 5/10

Anthem For A Lost Cause - Anthemic. For this album. A bit Abba. A bit swaying. Like it though 8/10

Holy As The Soil (That Buries Your Skin) - Great song even with Nicky singing!! Great title too. Without the brackets anyway 8/10

3 Ways To See Despair - Likey. 8/10

Running Out Of Fantasy - LOVE!!!! JFPL acoustic vibe 9/10

Monobier - They've had better instrumentals but fits in very well with the feel of the album 7/10

30 Year war - I like that the lyrics trip over the music and it's a bit ranty with still being subtle. Interesting stuff 8/10

VERDICT: Impressed. Never thought I'd be so excited by "mellow" Manics

Suede. A band I like but they still do they same thing all these years later. I'm noticing a contradiction. Hey ho. We like what we like
