In fairness, the Second Great Depression got played around the SATT re-issue so I have some home hope for a curio. But little hope of IA if they can't find the energy for Motown Junk.

If they do play IA again, in a cruel repeat of history, they'll play it once, someone will record it and it (and the recording) will never be heard again.

You never know, they might do something utterly ridiculous to surprise us all and do a full album performance...

Haaaummmmn... Don't get your hopes up or disappoint yourselves thinking what might happen!
It would be amazing. It wouldn't be a three piece gig. To do a KYE in full show. Yeah, they'd need at least a five musician set up. I have heard KYE stuff as a three (well four with keyboards) and perhaps you had to be there. But then given the length of the album. Well you'd at least see a gig without the big hits! Found That Soul really needs reintroducing as a set opener. If I was there I'd be screaming "TIME IS MONEY!" and clapping my hands as they sorted out different guitar changeovers. I'm just looking forward to the box. Whenever it comes. Whenever it comes. |

The fewer people on stage with MSP, the better really. 3 and keyboard, that's the absolute max I'm willing to take.

I don't agree about the three piece being better as a rule. Guy Massey playing guitar during the Lifeblood and PPf tours added a nice layer. Extra musicians should be used to provide more texture, not as in the case of the RiF tour, as a crutch for James as he can't keep up with the songs as an all in one singer, rhythm and lead guitarist. Not to say James shall play all the parts all the time, but when parts are delegated to backing musicians then tend to be played without passion and mixed low in the sound which ends up subtracting from the overall soundscape. For instance it might have been better to have had Gavin Fitzjohn to create horn segments for songs rather than adding another guitar layer no one can hear. I truly think i hurts the band to be adverse to dicking around with their songs.

Wayne Murray playing the intro to NSAF in 2018 was unforgivable.

What I never quite got was that MSP went for a keys player only when they got big (lovely though their backing band seem to be.) The Manics seem the perfect band to have a player who does a bit of guitar and a bit of keys. So Design for Life/Tolerate etc all clearly need their string/synth parts, and the 2nd guitar is cool but not critical. But songs like Faster and You Love Us really need no keys at all. So with that in mind, I have always wondered if a guitar/keys combo would have worked better as I've seen plenty of bands with that setup.

I wonder if we'll see anything before we reach the two year anniversary of Nicky claiming they were working on the release....

Seems to be the longest build up / chat around a special edition doesn’t it.
Hopefully that means lots and lots of stuff Can’t call it KYE20 now either which is mildly annoying. |
