Revisited it a week back after no listens for a month or two and found I still knew every detail of it and loved it even more.

I'm not so keen. It works well as an album, but none of the songs in particular stands out as among their best for me (except maybe all is vanity), and there's too many similar shouty choruses. At first I really enjoyed listening over and over again to discover all it had to offer, but I don't find myself wanting to revisit it too often now

It's still pretty awesome!!

I think part of the reason I love it so much is because of the context of how it came about. If it was just a random album by a random band it would be a pretty good album with some pretty good songs. However, because it's by this band that i've loved and been so emotionally involved with (as cheesy as that sounds) and knowing the history involved (using Richey's lyrics, etc) it stands out as a phenomenal piece of work.

As someone said earlier, they could have fucked this one up badly but they pulled it out of the bag big time.

Note that "It hasn't held up to repeat listens" in my case means: not considering it the second best Manics album and the best album in years anymore, but still loving it and shelter people who don't like WLW!

the opening 3 (argubly 4 tracks) were that strong that i didn't pay much attention to the rest of the album, bar Marlon JD. as time goes on, i'm paying more attention to the "rest" of it, and it's even better than i thought on first play!

A few tracks get the skip treatment now, namely Pretension/Repulsion (musically dull) and All is Vanity (crap/silly lyrics).

I still think Peel Apples is one of the best things they've ever done.

still as fantastic as when i first heard it, the more i listen to it the more it highlights the wekness of song lyrics on the albums after everything must go!

Did anyone ever find out why in Peeled Apples Nicky took Richey's 'window dummy' and replaced it by a phrase that previously never existed? Is there any meaning whatsoever to 'shop work dummy'? It's the new Underdogs edit for me. That and the rendering of JCEQT's second verse as nonsense. Don't ever touch Richey's lyrics again, Nicky.

Still love it. Though "As much as I did initially" would be hard.

I love it as much as I did initially, and I still find it interesting to listen to and think about, which, much as I love it, you can't say about SATT. It's one of the best things they've ever done.

well they (James included) reserved the right to edit the words even when he was still around, so no reason to change now!

maybe James just didnt like using the word "lingerie" *lolz
