Mansun was amazing. Remember back in the day when if you would have had a poll of what Manics' fans second favorite band was Mansun would have won in a landslide? God I miss them.

I can't think of any band that's ripped them off. Bands like JJ72 and King Adora were I'm sure more than a little insipired by them. Those two anyway, had more interest in borrowing manics fans than the bands sound. |

Kinesis, to a ludicrous extent lyrically.

I was really into Miss Black America at one point. I still maintain "Talk Hard" is a fantastc song, and so are many of the others but that's top of the pile.
They never really sounded a lot like the Manics but they certainly borrowed a Holy Bible era look to themselves. They also had quotes on their record sleves.

I can't recall the ins and outs but I had a conversation with someone about Towers Of London having something a bit Manicsy about them - I think image and that kind of stuff more than lyrics and everything. Although the music is not too far off a pre-GT Manics.

Tight white jeans is all I can think of.
That and self exploitation, but on the lowest level.

I think to a certain extent it's very hard for a band to knock off the Manics for two reasons:
-JDB's voice is so incredibly strong you need a VERY good singer to get anywhere near him - The Manics are themselves a rip off of their own influences (as is every band since the 70s)

Am I right in saying My Vitriol? They supported them when they were first starting and had later had an EP called 'A Pyrrhic Victory'. Or is that just a coincidence?

I think I can once remember describing them as "Manic Street Preachers without the brains" around the time of Fuck It Up. I lost interest when their album turned about to be completely shite though, and then they became some cable channel's reality TV joke or something.

Thats who they were! Cheers, it's been killing me for years which band i saw play the Camden Underworld back in 2003 supporting Kinesis. Terrible band.

Kinesis had some great singles, some great b-sides and then a great live show...but then their album came out and spoilt it all!

I don't know about ripping them off, but Ulterior are certainly inspired by them and their earlier look was very Manics. (Third from the left is wearing a Holy Bible shirt) They're a decent band though, I like their stuff.

Hey!
Band is named COhOLiC. Haven't really got any tracks on the website yet but if you follow the link it will take you to a page where you can hear the song about Richey and also has 2 video clips from Hammersmith - you dont have to watch them obviously. http://www.coholic.co.uk/foreverdelayed Just hit play on the music player. If anyone is intersted in reviewing our album I'll give you it for free. The album goes on sale in a few weeks once the pressing plant are finished with it! |
