i'm assuming / hoping that if the above are true that they still paid over royalties to the Richey estate for Journal For Plague Lovers? if not, that leaves a bit of a sour taste, with it released in 2009......

I'm not sure actually...but if he's not listed as writing credits how would that work? We know that they were all millionaires at one point so if Richey only has 500k then he can't have been getting an equal split.

I'm pretty sure they made sod all from album sales and most of there money from touring. A big arena tour would rake it in.

I've heard that the advance for KYE was more than the money earned through sales of first 5 albums put together - which they decided to spend on Cuba....

They're well off but low down the ranks in comparison to some rock/pop stars!

I just clicked on this post thinking it said " Manic Street Preachers EARINGS" and I have no idea why...
They didn't really get £100,00 each for playing Glasto in 07 though surely? And the Cuba trip lost them an incredible amount of money.

Yes after they decided to carry on a bank account was setup for his royalties. There was a million quid in it a few years ago. When he was officially declared dead his parents took control of his estate and thus the royalties. Richey would've been owed something from Journal since he gets credit for writing all the lyrics. |

I've noticed recently they credited songs as "Written By Manic Street Preachers" on their releases, perhaps this has something to do with it?

Because I remember seeing the CDs with the lyrics credited to Richey and/or Nicky then music credited to James and Sean rather than it all being credited to the band as a whole.

I suppose it must be a legal thing really? From seeing them live and reading interviews you learn that Your Love Alone Is Not Enough, Some Kind Of Nothingness and Golden Platitudes are Nicky's music and I Think I've Found It is James lyircs. It's not like they make a secret of who did what really, I'd like to see songs labeled properly but I suppose it's just simpler that they don't. |

They usually say in interviews if Nicky contributes to music or James to lyrics or whatever, so it's probably just convenient for them to credit songs equally.
