Was my favourite heartbreaking line from that report. I missed out on Napster stuff. But remember it happening. |

Is it true that there's only one vinyl pressing plant in Europe hence the delays? And that nobody wants to invest in a second one as they're worried by the time it is up and running the vinyl boom will be over? I mean, how much can a smallish vinyl pressing plant cost?

Nah, there's more than that, but there are still a fairly small number. And some of them are shit (there's a Czech one that's notorious for bad quality pressings).
There's only one place in the world that producers the lacquers needed for manufacture, though, since a place in the US burned down about 18 months ago. That's when the lead times on manufacture basically doubled. Majors still get stuff done comparatively quickly because they book slots years ahead, often before they even know what's going to fill them, but this means that smaller independents get totally shafted, hence the 12 month waiting times. I'm generally still a CD buyer, and it's frustrating that the CD release is always delayed so it can be released alongside the vinyl (usually for first week chart positions), but this is sometimes months after the digital now too. Roddy Woomble from Idlewild released an album last year, the digital came out in May, the physical versions in August. Given that CD manufacture time is still usually just a couple of weeks this struck me as odd - surely they didn't need such a long pre-order time? And then the CDs were released on time, with the vinyl still delayed by a further couple of months, making the whole thing even dafter. The whole thing isn't helped by everyone pushing the multiple coloured vinyl bundles and stuff. I know it really plays into sales so it seems necessary for a lot of people, but I do wonder just how much vinyl doesn't even get played these days. If people were literally only buying copies they'd actually use, the manufacture backlog would be so much shorter. |

The czech producer ist the biggest in the world though. At least he claims that himself. The company is expanding to other continents: http://www.gzmedia.com/en-GB/Homepage.aspx
I am pretty sure, most of the vinyl records you buy are produced there and that's a tragedy - mainly because of a poor culture in the company, which shouldn't be supported. I mean how people are threated, I don't care for vinyl. Another thing that noone needs vinyl records. There is no advantage, only many disadvantages. When you want a good analogue sound, buy a tube amp and good speakers. The world full of people buying PVC music and watching Formula 1, voting for green parties and demonstrating against global warming is really crazy.

Next gig is only three weeks away now. Looks like it’s just a one-off in Peterborough (ignoring their support slots this summer and smaller festivals).
Wonder if we’ll get an announcement around that time. |

I was going to kill this thread for weeks but didn't get around to it. Could the band be thinking "Holy crap. Cost of living. Disposable income. Shit everything's finished! We're fucked! Both Musician and fandom... ".
Or it could be all of the above in the thread? A shitstorm of existence the salt rubbed in of course the sentiments and content of KYE! |

Not sure if they've done it anywhere else, but they came on stage to the Avalanches remix of So Why So Sad at Middlesbrough last night.
