Er, we haven't heard the song yet so how come we hate it?...
Manics don't sound like Manics just because James sings, they sound like the Manics because they play, er, Manics songs. All the Nicky-sung ones are Manics songs. I'm personally very excited about this, could be great.

Well Nicky is still a member of the manics, Sean could sing lead (please do) and it'd be a manics song, I revise that to someone outside the band. If Cate le Bon is doing a track can Simon do one too?

If people are allowed to get excited about it without hearing it, then surely others are allowed to be equally sceptical about it? Both stances have the same information at this stage after all.
I'm a bit indifferent tbh, can't deny I'd prefer James to sing, but if it's just the odd track out of many, I can live with that. But agree it'll probably end up a b-side or if played live sung by James anyway. |

I agree with this to an extent but I just prefer the manics to have a staple JDB vocal and I don't think that is an unfair request?. I don't like the instrumentals they put out.

Some woman singing a Manics song?

But Black Holes for the Young, Little Baby Nothing, Your Love Alone all had female vocalists. Granted, the last two are duets, but it isn't something new. I'm not trying to start a fight, honest
Yes, I think people are allowed to have a positive/negative reaction to this news. I'm surprised too, I thought James was partially joking when he said he was kind of over singing heh. Obviously, we haven't heard it yet. I guess my attitude is we wanted something different after PFAYM and how...generic it sounded (don't get me wrong, I liked some stuff on there!) so between this and the "folktronic" talk, it'll definitely be a different approach. |

It's only one song so I can live with that. I expect JDB will still sing on 90% of the songs.

Well I'm excited. I love female vocalists. As it has been rightfully said, the Manics wrote the lyrics, the music. They've just asked for someone different to sing. It might suit the song really well. It's great that the band are mixing it up.
Perhaps pass judgement when the song is released?

But you've already decided it's something worth getting excited about having not heard it, so how is that any different to those having reservations about it? It's a complete double standard saying that. People are allowed a gut reaction, whether that be positive or negative, neither is wrong.

I wasn't familiar at all with Cate Le Bon so YouTubed a few tracks and no, sorry, I really dislike her style of singing. Too whimsical, ethereal and high. Not my cup of tea at all and even though the the music was good, her voice irritated me and took me right out of the song.
