Back on track a bit...

I've been listening to alot of Simple Minds' Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call album recently, i think it's going to be a good pointer as to where the Manics are going with Futurology. Most people think of them as the 'Alive & Kicking' band, but this really is a good album with some power and there are some great synth, guitar and bass parts. Theme for Great Cities is included which was on the Manics' pre-show tape on the PFAYM tour, also one of the best instrumentals ever recorded.

This, mixed with Metal Box by PIL.

That's my guess.

I'm thinking (hoping) that it's the next single. I imagine that there will be another single due for released in time for July so it makes sense that it could be this.

The first single hasn't been released yet though, it's not usual to have two singles before the album?

Not totally relevant but Queen released THREE singles from The Game before the album was released. Wouldn't surprise me if the Manics release Europa at some point soon.

Europa is available to d/l from amazon from may 12th which suggests it may be the first proper single.

Even less relevant due to difference in cultures, but Japanese artists go one further and release nearly all the singles before the actual album (the release of which tends to mark the end of the promotional campaign).

Although in this case Europa getting released so soon feels like (somewhat pointless) promotional damage control. Either way, if it's true I wish we'll at least get some sort of a single package for this one, even if it's only digital.

as WMTTB is already available to buy it would be pointless to package it as a single bundle. Better idea to just go with Europa i think. It's all meaningless anyway..everyone's waiting for the album

Releasing WMTTB, with it's video, as a download mirrors how the RTF campaign started (with the title track coming out as the first 'taster' of that album).
So I think it's quite possible that Europa could be the first physical single with additional tracks (maybe some remixes ala RITH as well as new b-sides?).
I'm not sure how much logic it would make bringing it out before the album but it's no doubt going to be in their live set over the festival period, which could gain Futurology more interest from casual fans.

Would still be great to have WMTTB in CD or vinyl form though...

Might they be releasing Europa to coincide with the European Elections in May? Or, erm, Eurovision which is also in May.

ooh, amusing! Especially the bit about the bonus tracks being rip-off for being on the demo CD of the deluxe and not the actual deluxe album (joe col).

Or the usual "they should have split up 12 years ago".
I laughed.

Hmm yes rather than split up 12 years ago and reform for the money.
