Well, I think there's ample evidence he was doing that as well.

I have no idea why Richey started smoking so late - boredom maybe - but do I think it's weird that he started around the age of 25? Not at all! I know quite a few people who picked it up post-teenage years.

Besides, I think Richey may have been an occasional smoker prior to '93 anyway. A few reviews/interviews from 90/91 indicate he was smoking backstage. Also, as I mentioned previously in this thread, he is smoking in the 1990 Heavenly promotional vid. Not sure however if I was an occasional habit for him or rather just an image thing.

So im taking it the general opinion is that smoking completely ruins your singing voice? I mean there's so much scientific evididence that proves it, yet theres the exceptions to the rule like JDB and Noel Gallagher....

While it's obviously not the best thing to be doing if you sing, some people seem to cope with it better than others. I dunno to be honest!

Smoking is disgusting and even the Manics wrote about it as being a slow form of suicide in Spectators of Suicide. It kills people, and it will probably kill James

Smokers know it's not good for them but it's their choice!

I thought about that a lot when I was watching footage from the studio shoots. You never realise how much someone smokes until you're watching several days' worth of video footage, seeing every deep drag and hearing every throat-clear. It really got to me sometimes, thinking of how likely it is that this beautiful, talented fellow will die painfully and too young.

I do wish he'd quit or at least cut right down. I've never smoked, partly because my maternal grandmother died of lung cancer (caused by passive smoking and by working with strong chemicals in her cleaning job) and partly because as an asthmatic, I can't bear to be around cigarette smoke for too long - it just sets me off. I know everyone's entitled to do what they like and I'm not going to get all ridiculous and start telling anyone what they can or can't do, but it saddens me that he's so addicted. I think there are times at gigs where you can tell the damage it has done to his voice and I would hate him to die young as a result of it.

sometimes I think Keith Richard is an immortal. LOL

I don't like the fact that James smoking, I wish he stops or even count down the amount.
Luckly, James smoking doesn't effect him badly. he still sound amazing and he rocks on the stage.
