Why would he diss Tom Waits music when he's said in the past that his music is an inspiration? That doesn't make sense. Besides, there's clearly two 'T's at the end - gotta be Mike Watt (American singer and bassist formally of The Minutemen among many many other bands).

Also, how can "truly pathetic" be Drums when there's an "S" at the beginning of the word?

I do like Kirby's suggestion of Jack White though. That could fit and from what I can gather, would make perfect sense.

He must have been pretty bored to compile a list of what is essentially, who he dislikes

The thing is Mr 'Wire', The Drums are an absolutely fantastic band.

If 'Great Man Shit Music' was Mike Watt, I'd actually agree with him... respect all that he's done but can't bring myself to enjoy Minutemen, Firehose, etc.

Thought Nicky was a fan of The Minutemen [and one of the tracks off JFPL was inspired by them music-wise?] I reckon it's Tom waits.

Then again, Wire has come out with bigger contradictions than that in the past..

Yeah, a fan of The Minutemen, but Watt left that band years ago and has produced quite a bit of music since. Maybe it's the music he's produced since that Wire isn't a fan of. Besides, Wire mentioned when JFPL came out that Tom Waits was a huge inspiration musically for him...I believe it was in reference to WLW. It doesn't make sense that he would dislike Waits, but it does make perfect sense that he doesn't dig Watt's work after he left the Minutemen...many musicians feel the same way. He's a highly regarded and influential bassist, but a lot of the stuff he's done since his departure isn't very highly regarded. It fits.

No one dislike Tom Waits' music. I'm mean, disliking his singing style (which im sure Nicky of all people doesn mind ) isn't the same as disliking his songwriting. The man's brilliant!

Haha! I'd laugh if it was neither musician.

It's definitely Tom Waits that last one.

It's not perfect, cos I'm rubbish at drawing with a touchpad, but you can see the general idea of how the thinner penstrokes make up Tom Waits (or TOM WAiTS in Nicky's case.)

I would agree about Jack White too - I wondered about that one.

Scrap what I wrote...it looks like you may have solved the riddle, K. I'm personally shocked that he would diss Tom Waits, but I guess that's another example of how shit the bulk of Wire's music tastes are.

Good job! Really really well done! If you get some time, maybe you could give the other scribbles a whirl? Cheers, hun!

He'd have to be pretty bored, or he'd have to be Nicky Wire.

Oh, wait...

This is what we've got so far, then:

We Are Scientists, Two Door Cinema Club, Drums, Jack White, Mr Hudson and Tom Waits.

"Utter boredom" is THE ----T--Y. The first letter is an M or a W perhaps. "Give it a rest" begins with a B and ends in an S. There are little bits I can make out of other letters, but not enough to give me full names Blood Red Shoes looked like it might be a good shout, but there's a little flick at the bottom of what would be the "Blood" that doesn't fit. Black Keys almost fits too, but the S is too far away from where the Y would be.

Anyone got any more ideas? It must be bands that were popular around the last year or so.
