I'm too knackered to post much right now but I really enjoyed last night. Don't think it was my favourite THB gig but the setting made it special. Watching the sun going down over the castle with the Welsh flag flying and the fireworks at the end was pretty, plus the (eventual) bass smashing at the end was amusing Only real negative for me was the psycho bitch that appeared behind me towards the end of the first half and tried to force me off the barrier multiple times. I told her to leave me alone but she pulled me back by the hair during Walk Me To The Bridge, what a lovely lady! A stern word from security seemed to deter her thankfully, but Jesus Christ. She was a large middle-aged woman as well, so definitely old enough to know better. Can't say the experience surprised me though; this shit always seems to happen when they play to large crowds. I was determined not to let her ruin the gig though and still enjoyed the rest once she'd stopped throwing a tantrum over being second row (I think she must have pushed the guy who was behind me at the start out the way too, as he disappeared when she appeared). I've been told by various people James and I were on TV during IfWhiteAmerica, but haven't had chance to watch the BBC coverage back yet. I'm ready to cringe though when I see myself As for the moaning about songs being cut, frankly I'm amazed the BBC even wanted to show this gig at all. TV appearances like this are so rare these days, anything at all is a nice bonus. It's a shame they did cut THB stuff but again, not at all surprising. When they've played Glastonbury in the past the biggest hits (ADFL and YSTS mostly) always got shown in the highlights. I've really enjoyed this week and it's been nice to catch up with various friends and fans I always see on every tour, but I'm so, so ready to let THB lie now, go home and spend my time doing non-Manics related things. Need another week off work to get over this week I think |

I was one of the people expecting the full broadcast of the album. Maybe not on BBC 2 Wales but on the Red Button. I can't help think if this was the Foo Fighters or Green Day, the BBC would broadcast the whole thing. Nevermind, I agree that 8 songs is fab, however, would have been amazing to have the full album pro shot to keep on a DVD. I would have expected this to be put out by the label on DVD and Blu Ray following the recently signed deal with Sony though.

As for the stupid notion of the holy bible is not suitable for TV, This is utter bollox. If they can broadcast the first line of yes and the end of walking abortion (or even just say the title) they can pretty much broadcast the whole thing without worrying about offending anyone else. That is really a non-argument these to be honest. The whole point of the gig was TO PLAY THE HOLY BIBLE IN FULL. Unless the band are releasing a DVD later this year, it's pretty fucking ironic that the BBC decided to PLAY ALL THE HITS IN FULL PLUS SELECTED HOLY BIBLE TRACKS. The gig was about the holy bible, not the hits, I don't it's wrong for people to have expected that the broadcast should have reflected that.

Anyone want to head to the castle and steal the EVS the gig was recorded onto? I doubt they would have cleared the video disks this soon.

I think it's a case of when it was being watched at the time, it started out promisingly with the first four songs shown and uncensored. Then they went scissor happy with the set. No one expected CTRNR to feature by that point, but even then it's kind of strange to broadcast that and leave out Mausoleum or Intense Humming.
With my utilitarian hat on, what would I have done differently with the 90 minutes? Probably only kicked SIS for any of the songs they cut from either set. Certainly for Die in the Summertime. But when you get on the internet moan bandwagon, it's too much fun to jump off, even when you're listening to CTRNR. Please understand. |

I had the best of both worlds, drinking at Brewhouse with friends, fans and FDers beforehand, then fucking off home and watching from the comfort of my sofa. I thought they played really well, the broadcast sound was great and James' guitar tone was perfect. It makes me smile just to watch Bradders still spinning around a Cardiff stage, fifteen long years after the Millennium gig. And the attempted guitar smashing was hilarious - a rush of blood followed by the realisation that the guitars are getting stronger, or they're getting a bit old for this. Ahh, I love it all.

Great gig for me! Only thing that spoiled it was the person I was with kept shouting for a hit during the THB set. I lost my rag a bit.

I'm happy it was on TV my main problem was with the editing - it was poor.
I don't mean cutting out songs I mean the actual editing, very amateurish. I do think the crowd was very poor but no I wasn't there! |

Well, I had a great time. Atmosphere was great, lovely and relaxed. Everlasting being played with a quartet whilst the sun was setting behind Cardiff Castle was beautiful.
I was standing by the big bit in the middle, had a great view throughout. First half was good, second half much better for the castle setting. Crowd were good I thought, had a nice time. Nicky/JDB smashing the guitar at the end was a definite highlight!
