Hate to say it but those figures are frankly pathetic! We know that the album is going to sink like a stone. Wouldn't be surprised if total sales for this one don't get past 50k.

So the top 10 looked like this:
1 Ed Sheeran 52,152 (327,876) 2 Manic Street Preachers 19,938 3 Dolly Parton 18,568 (95,629) 4 Sam Smith 18,200 (270,991) 5 George Ezra 16,269 (48,837) 6 5 Seconds Of Summer 14,929 (81,902) 7 Coldplay 11,684 (402,175) 8 Example 11,547 9 Paolo Nutini 10,019 (355,331) 10 Kasabian 9,624 (132,518) I reckon the album will drop out of the top 10 this week sadly and disappear within a month. But of course I hope I am wrong! I reckon it might get a silver status (60,000) in a year

Well Lifeblood only managed to stay in the top 75 for 2 weeks, and it got Silver status, so with time, it will get there, just like Rewind The Film will.

Did JFPL sell around the 30k to 40k mark in its first week? I can't remember what PFAYM did but I expect the general fall in album sales is the main reason for such a drop in first week sales since 2009 than anything else.
I do wonder with MSP's first week sales, what percentage do the dedicated fans account for these days. Anybody have a rough idea how many copies need to be sold now for a band like the Manics to make a profit for their label?

I think Postcards sold around 35,000. maybe a little less. Journal was similar I think. Yes 20,000 for Futurology seems a small number at first but with album sales at an all time low, unless you're a major artist you're not going to sell very many and as for the Manics you can only compare it to what the current climate is like.

yeah
there's no point in comparing album sales from past years. Album sales fall every single year and will keep falling. With things like spotify people delay buying albums and stream them instead. Even i've started doing it.. 4 albums i would have bought in the first week of release are on my spotify playlist.. i'll buy them eventually but I'm not in any rush

Well, their last couple of records only spent about 10 weeks on the chart. So, even if it drops out of the top ten, fingers crossed it should stick around for a bit.
Mind you, THB only did 3 weeks (And then another 3 weeks some years later) so Futurology is in at least good company for low chart runs! |

They're down from 8 to 26 in the Irish charts.

Fingers crossed it stays top 20 in the UK this week, not sure I want to know how many copies it's sold though! Might get depressing.
Futurology is charting well in Europe (I guess the fact they're still charting at all in many countries is good news!.) Generally a bit better than RTF and Postcards but it may be a case of one week in, one week out. Anyway for the record so far... Belgium #57 and #112 Denmark #35 Finland #17 Germany #33 Italy #96 ---------- first time on Italian charts? Netherlands #42 Spain #50 Switzerland #51 Also #36 in Japan. #18 in the worldwide list according to Mediatraffic.de! Last edited by cdrw1992; 19-07-2014 at 12:58. |
