I've been a HUGE fan since GT days, and am delighted to be seeing them in such a small venue. Probably about my 15th time of seeing them, having missed out on Past Present Future tour, St David's Hall, many other "special" gigs...

This'll be up there with Millennium Eve, and being there for a TFI Friday recording for me! Sorry you missed out...but there'll be other times, like there were before, and will be again. It was just my lucky day!
I'm an occasional poster on here. Shared a couple of bootleg shows was how i initally arrived here. I managed to get a couple of tickets. The whole system is flawed though for these type of shows. When you have such a huge demand for so few tickets they could put some kind of system in place that means you have to name both people using the tickets and then they have to show ID at the gig to get their tickets. Tickets would still be hard to get but at least you would know that the majority of people there are manics fans who paid face value.

The legalised ticket touting scam that ticketmaster operate

http://www.getmein.com/tickets/manic...ow-170784.html

is even worse than your everyday tout.

As long as these people get away with this and no one who has the power challenges them then they'll just continue to do it.

Well done to anyone who managed. I think it's nice that people with very few posts who are real fans are coming on to say they have tickets

I'm not sure if it would have worked in this instance, but I've seen it with other bands where they have a pre-sale for members of the official site, but instead of just having a password, you can only access the ticket link if you are logged into the band's site and follow that link through. So if you tried to share the pre-sale link with just anybody, it wouldn't work. The last time I went through that was for Idlewild, who were only offering the tickets to those who pre-ordered their new album and paid upfront before it was even made, so I guess that was more something for the hardcore fans, rather than the touts. The touts would probably just sign up anyway if they didn't have to shell out any money themselves.

I've seen this happen so many times now though with touts buying up lots of the tickets. It's unfair on the fans, but I do think if people are prepared to pay X amount, then touting will always exist. As a few have already suggested, I'd at least wait until nearer the gig if you are intent on buying from ebay...although I suspect with there being so few tickets in the first place and so many people missing out, the touts probably won't be left with an excess of spares they can't get rid of.

Yeah, I don't get what post count or whatever has to do with anything. There are plenty of Manics fans who probably don't even read this forum; they're still entitled to buy gig tickets.

It's probably because of forums like this that touts buy so many - they're reading it and preying on you knowing that you're all ready to hit click. Bastards.

I blame the band. If they didn't exist, the touts wouldn't have tickets to sell.

I don't think he meant anything by it, just an observation. I was obsessed with Manics about 10 years before I started gettin on here regular.

I wasn't suggesting the folk I hadn't heard of weren't real fans, more that I was surprised that folk who have been members for two, three or four years and haven't had much to say for themselves seemed to have more joy getting them than regulars. Not a conspiracy theory or anything.

Edit: Anyway, tiny gigs like this, tickets should be on sale at the venue's box office only. Then only the folk prepared to queue up overnight would get them. I wouldn't have been one of them, but at least they'd have gone to deserving people and not touts.

There were two other pre-sales I was aware of this morning.
Crowded House, which was password only, to paid-up members of the fan-club.
Florence and The Machine - pre sale on her website for "fans", but was wide open to all...

The Killers played The Academy in Dublin last year. About 600 capacity. Tickets were on sale via Ticketmaster, open to all, sold out in 30seconds flat, but... no tickets were issued. The cardholder/person named on the sale had to show ID at door for access for him/her +1. This worked great - no touts, no eBay sales...Came with a nice souvenir wrist band too!

talking of wristbands, i have been in contact with just a general rubber wristband manufacturer who will do a plain white with black writing any font 500 for £10, so i shall get them and give them out at random at gigs when they do them next!

I know that 14 isn't a lot of tickets being sold on eBay isn't that many in the grand scheme of things, but in this instance it's about 5% of the tickets that were available on eBay after 2 hours of them being on sale.

This is just further evidence that something needs to be done to stop touting.

I didn't get tickets, but didn't really expect to. I figured most people would be buying them in pairs so it was unlikely that I would be one of the 150 who got through.

EDIT: Also, I think presales are pretty useless. Surely any tout with half a brain would be signed up to mailing lists for any group that there is a potential to make money from.

23, if you include the nine being sold on GetMeIn last time I looked. Probably more than 10 per cent of the tickets that actually went on sale to the general public.

Well that was kind of my point The situation I was comparing it to was where the fan had to put forward some money for either an album pre-order or a fan club membership (probably the only two examples of pre-sales I've actually seen work); I did say it probably wouldn't work in this instance.
