Quote:
Told you his voice has really come on since 2006! At one point the melody reminded me of a tune from the 80's. But it's gone. If the rest of the album is as good or goes further, well that's me pounding streets instead of my meat first sale Friday! |

What a pleasant surprise in my (more than usual) melancholy life!
If there's not a market for a traditional release – or he thinks there isn't – I think he should "just" upload 12-15 tracks, drip by drip, on Bandcamp (he probably doesn't "need" the money; question is whether it's art for art's sake and whether one – him or us – has any adamant feelings about what constitutes a "real" release). People can stream it in or without context, download it/burn on a CD/record onto a tape/whatever. There's a high-quality download option after all, so no degradation in sound quality. This sounds great, and I am very excited to listen to the rest, wherever that might be. It's very obviously a Nicky Wire song, but there are also some things that sets it apart from the regular sounds of MSP. I like its cyclical, mantra-like nature that avoids being repetive by adding and swapping different musical elements. There's a nice build-up to it. The synthesizers are a definite hightlight to me (pretty foreign parts to Manics land). Wonder what the rest sounds like. Pretty sure it's going to be a kaleidoscopic affair.

Beautiful. I love IKTZ but that's a step up

Some baseless* album predictions (about keeping up with the zeitgeist er bleibt doch immer ein Philosoph mit einem deutlich europδischen Blick).
Cover art: Nicky standing pensively atop a Welsh mountain. Title: "Thus Spake I". Keeping it truth-y. * though I am very happy to hear actual basslines on this release

i've been so very much anticipating for nicky to do something about this. really beautiful.
but isn't this just a take on the same melodies as in 'the passing show'? |

It might be in his voice. I've played the two back to back. And the biggest thought was "Holy crap, he's come on since!".

Have been waiting a long time for this and it hasn't disappointed. Fully agree that it feels like a natural and solid progression from IKTZ (which I still love). Really excited that we will be getting more soon.
I wonder if this will be part of the album or a standalone release ? I don't want to be greedy but the extra tracks from IKTZ (such as Afterbloom and Derek Jarman's Garden) were some of his best work. |
