Yup, it's brilliant. I tried getting into Dandy Warhols afterwards but they're just not for me.
The Story of Anvil is another good one. |

My point was it did. There were plenty of industry people there, and it went down really well. The manics fans at the screening were in the minority. It's meant to be different to just another album by album documentary on the band. Whether or not you could get non-manics fans to watch it is another matter, but if they did I think it would appeal to them.

As for the walk the line comparison Bathtub made, that's a completely different thing imo as it was a biog of his life and he was famous beyond his music really. How did the recent release to theatres of the stone roses documentary do? That's who i'd compare it to not a Johnny Cash Oscar winning film btw I agreed with the other points in Takk's comments. I do believe the film should be released. I just don' t think many non-fans will be motivated to see it. At least not stumping up the cash to go see it at a cinema |

I'm not holding my breath for this any longer - been excited about it for years and got a feeling it would be something that a Manics fan could go back and watch time and time again.
But I think if the filmmakers are holding out for a good return on their investment then that time has gone. I am aware there are copyright issues with the music in the film. Of course they are more than entitled to make something from it - I'm not for one second implying they shouldn't. I just feel if album and single sales are hardly stellar at the moment for the band then this documentary has little chance of selling in the numbers perhaps first estimated. The suggestion of perhaps selling it to Sky Arts is a good one and maybe they could help iron out any copyright issues?! I also think a downloadable version would be of most benefit to the producers (and us fans) - it would surely be a lot less on distribution costs! Can't really see why Sony wouldn't want to release it as a download in conjunction with an album promotion, with the filmmakers agreements of course. Or perhaps Sony just don't want it released? Or are the band distancing themselves from it? Just asking |

the band aren't distancing themselves from it. Sony want their cut for copyrights before the film makes any money. Film makers won't have that till they release the film so they're stuck between the proverbial rocks. That's what i remember anyway

The best thing they could do would be to hold out until the band split or Richey returns. Whichever comes first.
The reality is, however, that it is a documentary about the Manics in their worst period commercially and critically. Outside of the hardcore fan base who really gives a fuck. The band and management certainly don't rate it. |

Basically this. They can't release the film, even for free, because they have to cover the fees before they can.

I seem to remember in the Q&A it was said that the band were asked for their thoughts but that none of them replied.
I see that as a good thing in a way. It's a decent documentary, not a promo piece. The label should buy back the rights and include it in a DVD or the next shoebox.

This seems to be the most likely way it'll get out to be honest!

Or re-edit it minus the music. If only hardcore fans are interested, why do they need snippets of songs they already own and have probably played to death.

Not that easy to do, Fluffster.

It's a good documentary but it really came about at the dullest period the manics have had.

I meant the Lifeblood - SATT eras weren't that exciting.
