BUT. Is James trying to rap on Sex...?
It's not really rapping, it's more like what Black Francis does on some Pixies songs where he's not quite talking and not quite singing. Personally, I think it works brilliantly for the track.

Like all of them so far.

Really fond of that drumbeat, and just the general lushness of Between the Clock and the Bed. I've pretty much liked everything I've heard so far.

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking of when I first heard it.

Another text from my big brother;

"Heard a few more tracks now. This all sounds to me like what they were trying to do on Lifeblood - only done properly! Very encouraging stuff so far."

Wish XFM wasn't blocked at my workplace! Don't suppose LGTW or Futurology has been played on BBC radio?

Futurology was played on BBC Radio 2 on the day before Black Square was, on Ken Bruce's show.

As much as I love hearing the new music, I wish there could be some element of surprise left and not have all tracks played on radio - even if I chose not to hear them, I would still be spoilt by comments. It's a minor gripe but sometimes I wish it was 1996 again.

More lyrics

Sex, Power, Love and Money

It reads like a novel within a sigh
It's cold, it's truthful, it really never lies
No black, no white, no left, no right
Just four small words that will not be denied

Self-created for self-defence
Self-esteem is self-indulged
I guess we've ridden the back of love
Set fire to tears as they rain from above

Obsession, possession, confession, recession

Sex, Power, Love and Money
Sex, Power, Love and Money

Upload your future and download your past
Lament for the weak, for they will be crushed
We could've been heroes, but failure's more fun
Predictive and passionless, it's now self-indulged

It reads like a novel within a sigh
It's cold, it's truthful, it really never lies
No black, no white, no left, no right
Just four small words that will not be denied

Obsession, possession, confession, recession

Sex, Power, Love and Money
Sex, Power, Love and Money
Sex, (obsession, obsession) Power, Love and Money (possession, possession)
Sex, (confession, confession) Power, Love and Money (recession, recession)

Sex, (obsession, obsession) (possession, possession)
Sex, (confession, confession) Power, Love and Money (recession, recession)

Sex

Between the Clock and the Bed

I'm well aware of happiness
And what it takes to get to it
But the simple struggle of survival
Transforms itself into betrayal

Between the clock and the bed there's only space and Hell
Waiting for the transportation
Between the clock and the bed shapes move inside my head
Colliding with sheer desperation

Yes I'm as guilty as the rest
A man of little consequence
Unable of forgiving himself
Still building the bypass in my head

Between the clock and the bed there's only space and Hell
Looking for more intervention
Between the clock and the bed shapes move inside my head
We've all felt the implications

Hatred and failure go perfectly together
Like the quick and the sand, beautiful and damned
I live through these moments again and again
Repeating images of enemies and friends

Hatred and failure go perfectly together
Like the quick and the sand, beautiful and damned
I live through these moments again and again
Repeating images of enemies and friends

Black Square is still my favourite along with Europa after hearing the recorded versions of some of the tracks that have been played live. Not overly keen on SLPM, only heard it once, but wasn't bothered about playing it again. I do like Between The Clock And The Bed, very nice song - doesn't sound like a Manics song though. Let's Go To War is a bit disappointing, the main guitar riff isn't as "biting" as it is live, otherwise it's good.

Hopefully the tracks will sit better together as an album, rather than listening to them individually, and obviously the better sound quality will help.

LGTW is quite delicious, and now I swear I will stop listening to new songs so there are some surprises left for Monday. <_< >_>

I'm really not sure where I stand on Clock and Bed. Am I the only one who thinks that bloke's guest vocals are horrible? Maybe it'll grow on me. I wasn't fussed on Black Square at first but it's turning into a favourite now. Fingers crossed BTCATB will be this albums 4 Lonely Roads, took me ages to like that.
