First impression: some slightly awkward Manicseseque lyrical phrasings if I’m being picky (which may sound totally normal once I am used to them), but basically a magnificent song. Already making connections with the other songs we’ve heard and I can’t wait for the album, I’m especially intrigued as to how this song will interplay with the one about Morrissey.

Two listens and it sounds like more of the same really forgettable middle aged muzak.

Although could be problematic for anyone who loves this but criticised the bad lyrics of I'm just a Patsy or the mining of Design for Life for Indian Summer

I've only heard the snippet and just as a baby laughing at keys, I'm an easily impressed idiot who drools at guitar sweeping. His Last Painting coming home earlier sunset from a festival. His Last Painting riff simplified and rushed through as if rehearsing before the take starts.
People Ruin Paintings Snippet Verdict Following Discussion A Few Pages Ago: From the snippet it sounds like the guitar is going "Eeh... Maybe you should have voted in that referendum? Still it doesn't really matter it doesn't really matter dated Vic and Bob reference".

Lyrics:

Just Stop Oil Protestors
Were surely sent to test us
When will VHS return
I can’t help it, paintings need more soup

Take the climber out of the mountain
Give me a Pollock, give me a Rothko
Take the explorer out of the wilderness
Take Van Gogh leave us the sunflowers

People ruin paintings and faces spoil the view
People destroy the truth

I’ve looked into million eyes
They all finish dead and destroyed
I just don’t care about the framing
‘Cos people always ruin paintings

Take the sailor out of the ocean
Take the adventurer from the Arctic Circle
Take the nihilist out of the desert
Take the flag from the Sea of Tranquility

People ruin paintings, faces spoil the view
People destroy the truth

I’ve looked into million eyes
They all finish dead and destroyed
I just don’t care about the framing
‘Cos people always ruin paintings

Oh, people ruin paintings, faces spoil the view
People destroy the truth

I’ve looked into million eyes
They all finish dead and destroyed
I just don’t care about the framing
‘Cos people always ruin paintings

Ruin paintings
Ruin paintings

I actually don't then as I've not criticised I'm Just a Patsy or Indian Summer. If it's something else feel free to say or message.

So you've referenced what I've talked about in the last few days in your comment in the latest "I still don't like anything by them" post for no reason?

Scar Tissue by RHCP played in a tunnel? Another of their tributes like Rosebud and Pedestal to that band? Are they going for a "Black Summer" vibe musically?

Mea culpa, I read the Send Away the Tigers chats but I actually did not realise that those criticisms came from you over the last days, it was not trying to get at you, and they're certainly not something for me to get 'butthurt' about being that they're valid criticisms.

If that has offended you, sorry.

I'm not sorry for pointing out that those same criticisms can be applied to the new song and that if one were to ignore them for people ruin paintings it'd be hypocritical.

And it's not 'I still don't like anything by them' it's 'I still don't like their recent output (edit) but I still listen as i'd love for them to do something amazing again'. Cheers

So is the subtext of this song about not being able to separate the art from the artist or something else? Hard to really tell from the lyric especially when the examples are not really cancelled. But hard to think that it's literally about people in paintings either as Nicky has been want to do quite a few self portraits of himself in his photography.

From the few lyrics we know i’d say it’s getting at preferring the internal journey of discovery that artists take, as opposed to the external journey humankind covets… (Nicky lyric then?)
Interested to hear more at midnight though.

(Edit: the more I think about it the more i wonder if you’re right with the separating art & the artist thing. Is it saying “who cares what journeys you’ve been on in your life, I really like that painting you made”???
