If they start to do a Liverpool (not attend for 5/6 years in a mood for no real reason after a superb gig) to Cardiff I'll also be confused.

Odd ignoring Liverpool as well. The scousers do know their music, you'd think it would be a mandatory stop.

Or maybe one of the venue managers laughed at them in a jokey way for their albums failures (in relative terms to TIMT and EMG) at that time. It is a pity as Liverpool is an active city gig wise, sometimes gets a bit violent in Academies there but overall very nice and energetic. Remedied this year though, may they continue that process.

Thats where we're hitting problems. Class isnt a state of mind, it isnt determined by lifestyle or choice but how you fit within the economic circumstances of where you live.

*I mean, how many times do they mention Richey these days? Surely record levels. They're in love with their own legend, and I don't blame them 'cause I am too. |

Trying to write big anthems which people dont seem to be into any more...an acoustic album would be ideal...jdb sounds great whenever he does acoustic versions of songs or covers....a whole acoustic album with a smaller sound would bring in new fans and give them a different sound to their usual strings, big guitars and big choruses. Thought provoking lyrics with nice acoustic sound would be a real success i think.

LOLZ! @ the people blaming PFAYM's mediocrity on Sony. The band wrote the songs etc. They did write what they wanted, and then decided to barely play any of it live...

Yeah, playing in the highest concentration of people with the best transport links in the country is a ridiculous idea.

Oi! Lay off Eringa!
![]() I don't hear anything bland about the production at all. The main problem seems to be people 'not liking' choirs. Well I do like choirs and plenty of other people do as well so stop whinging!

1 or 2 gigs in London makes sense for the reason you said, but not an additional set of gigs, albeit I do realise they don't get to decide the venue for XFM and whatnot so I'm probably talking wank but it just feels like ignoring other venues (Cardiff this tour) is a bit shit for fans in the UK.

Eringa is good at what he does I agree, but Postcards is oversaturated in strings and choirs and such. I mean what I used to love about Design For Life (I am bored of the song due to hearing it a million times sadly, same with Animal Nitrate by Suede) is that the strings are only really apparent at key moments, they were used to build the song as opposed to exist solely to add a backing track.

I wonder if Jeff Lynne has heard Postcards yet? He has used strings on many of his records. I want his opinion!

Totally, I'm sick of this insistence they seem to have of working with him. Even if they go with someone else (Visconti, Albini), they always take the album back to Eringa, who seems to work everything the original producer did out of the songs. He's so one-dimensional as a producer it's unreal.

Yeah I agree, songs that just sound like daytime-tv inserts on the record (it's not war...) are actually pretty thunderous live, with the strings less loud, glossy and persistant. The mix on the record is pretty dreadful in places.
