The Manics really should do a The The cover. They're the great influence on them that they've rarely acknowledged, and somehow The The have been forgotten by the general public and hardly ever seem to get mentioned in the music press (i.e. retrospectives). Plus this year they (well...he) released their first album on 10 years - the soundtrack to the film 'Tony'. It's absolutely bloody brilliant - and this from someone who doesn't listen to much instrumental music. Frankly Matt Johnson needs to get another proper vocal album out and reclaim a bit of the attention he richly deserves.

Sorry, I know we're going off topic, but I love The The (saw them on the Vs the World Tour). Matt was a bit of a one man Manic back in his day, wasn't he? I'm sure I used to have an early pic of him, flanked by guys in balaclavas with 'Art Terrorists' written on the wall. Sort of foreshadowing GT and THB at the same time.

I'm quite fond of it. It's a bit like the lists section on manics.co.uk. Don't we all want to know what's going on in the Manics' cosmos?

Well, that seems to be that, then. They've gone through all the major monthly music magazines (unintentional alliteration overload!) in the UK I can think of without getting a bad review.

Then they've done something they've never done before - got good reviews for three albums in a row.

The Mojo review only gave it three stars, but the review itself read more like a four-star.
