New Q Interview - Details of Singles Album
Not sure if its been mentioned elsewhere, but in the latest Q magazine there's an interesting interview with Nicky on the forthcoming Singles album. Obviously can't transcribe it word-for-word, but some details :
* Compilation will be called 'National Treasures' * 'Limited quantities will be available as a box of individual CDs' Highlights from Nicky interview : "It's in chronological order and has that unbroken run of 33 Top 40 hits from Stay Beautiful to (Its Not War) Just The End Of Love. Its pretty staggering." New songs on the album ? "A cover version: probably something by The Prisoners, The Wedding Present or The The." Working on a new album ? "We are, but it won't be out until 2013." I'm very interested in this 'individual CDs' idea. Are they seriously going to bring out a 33 CD single boxset ?!?!? How much would that cost exactly ? |

i'm thinking about the same as the PFAYM shoebox, between £80-£100

I already have all the CDs. I have no need for reproductions of them. Chances of me buying the box set? Depressingly high.

It'd make more sense to release it like the Blur box set (cardboard slipcases rather than conventional CD cases). Intrigued by the Wedding Present cover, hope it's something from Seamonsters or The Hit Parade.

i was hoping for a 7'' single boxset rather than CD's, wonder if they'll do something like that

If they choose a The The cover version I'd love something from 'Dusk'. Dogs of Lust would be fantastic.

Meh to the best of idea. If the boxset is as it appears and includes the bsides that's pretty cool. Also, Wedding Present cover please!

I've never heard of The Wedding Present, are they a British group?

They are indeed. First album was in 1987 and they split up in about 96ish(?). The singer did a bit of a Billy Corgan and reformed them a few years ago with a new line up.

Seamonsters and Take Fountain are great albums. There's more to it than the Billy Corgan comparison above, but the band he had during the break eventually became a new version of The Wedding Present.

The Clash Singles boxset was cool, I hope it's similair. I hope we get some demos, or alternate cuts. Not a big fan of the proposed title though, sounds a bit pretentious. I would have just called it, 'Manic Street Preachers: The Singles'.
Sounds really cool, just hope the price isn't too dear! |
