James not singing?
Do any of you know anything about this, I heard he was tired of his voice, his voice is so much part of the manics sound dont mind him alternating verses with Ian McCulloch or Nina Persson but couldnt imagine them without his voice at all, anyone know anything?

And in case James is Googling this at a friends house,
James. Nearly get hit by a bus. Nearly drown. Nearly have a car crash. Nearly die. THEN come back to us and say you are tired of your singing! |

The Manics are prone to saying stuff which isn't always based in reality ('No one likes me but the wife and the dog' for example!) so I'm hoping it's one of those moments and normal service will resume when they return!

An album of Some Kind of Bliss/Girl from Tiger Bay-type sounds would still sound very Manics, I don't see all the fuss about this...

It would be dire, a duets album or an album wiht lots of duets would be alright to a point but nah, needs James' vocals

Maybe instrumental Manics? Just a onetime deal. Then James can be just pure guitar god.

Yeah, they said they were getting influenced by Krautrock, do something like Rubycon... weird, instrumental

A couple of instrumentals in place of any Nicky singing! But yeah, hopefully James will come to his senses in a couple of years. Maybe it's just the fatigue of fatherhood that has sent him a bit loopy!

I'm really fussy about vocals - not necessarily the ability of the vocalist, but more the sound of their voice - so I doubt I would be that interested if they got another singer. Which they won't of course.
Something like Dark Night Of The Soul could be really interesting though, as a one off project. Get BSP, The Horrors, The Joy Formidable, Gruff Rhys and various other people involved. One song each, written by the Manics, performed by them - all new material of course. |
