JDB features on Therapy?'s new best of
Probably doesn't deserve its own thread, but as news is fairly slow at the minute in the run up to the supposed GATS reissue...
To celebrate thirty years making music we decided to revisit our twelve most successful tracks from the UK Charts and play through them live at the legendary Abbey Road Studios with our dear friend and Super-Producer Chris Sheldon at the helm. We entered into this project with brio and a sense of celebration that we feel shines through the tracks themselves and adds a sparkle and heft. We even got our good friend James Dean Bradfield from the wonderful Manic Street Preachers to add his rich voice and powerful guitar playing to Die Laughing, a hit from 1994s Troublegum album. Out in March

I dont know how well known it is. But when Richey disappeared and the future of the band was unclear, James almost joined Therapy on guitar.

I do remember the story about Therapy? wanting James to join them. No idea, well it clearly didn't happen, but no idea how James was reported to have felt over this.

They did an acoustic version with James some years ago : https://youtu.be/YK12zShwfqU so will be good to hear a full band version

There was an article flying around not long back about Therapy at the time of Richey's disappearance. They were among the first to hear about it because one of them happened to call James shortly after.

That's a story I hadn't heard before. I knew that Andy Cairns and James were good mates though - did the Manics tour with Therapy at some point?

Cairns joined the Manics onstage for You Love Us a few years ago as well. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0ewN64NENp8

Saw this on twitter. Not the biggest therapy? fan but I love their first album. I'll probably get this as James is on it. Be rude not to.
You love us at the gig above was ace. Very good chums they are.

Aye in 1994. Andy Cairns has spoken about the difficulties clearly in evidence with much kindness and genuine respect. Sounds a lovely bloke. Jeffrey Dahmer references aside. Ha.

Andy's a proper gent, met him a couple of times after gigs. Backstage at The Cockpit in Leeds (RIP) he saw me sat without a drink and crossed the room to offer me a beer. Never seen anyone say a bad word about the guy.
In some ways they're pretty different bands, although there's a fair amount of philosophical stuff that's worked its way into more recent T? lyrics that I'm sure appeals to James. Looking forward to him on the best of, anyway. |

This might be a bit of a stretch but I thought Broken Algorithms off the last Manics album was a bit Therapy-ish, the part with distorted vocals in particular.

The NME definitely ran a news item about the possibility of James joining Therapy? sometime in 1995.
