But normal people don't starve themselves to death just for the sake of fashion. Models who do get anorexia may well have had some trauma in their lives that caused them to succumb to the pressures of the modelling world. And there are many famous models who aren't underweight, not all of them are into the heroin chic look. Maybe some anorexics do find their condition glamorous but I'd say they probably all have some serious mental problem that caused it in the first place. Also, maybe just the phrase itself could have been something that Richey and other anorexics feel is true of them, even if Caraline's story isn't entirely relevant to them. I remember Richey or someone said that anorexia is like a kind of suicide where you don't have to die, hence the sitting in the middle waiting. Maybe he just thought the phrase itself summed anorexia up.
