Nicky's contributions on PFAYM

Is anyone else very impressed with Nicky's contributions on the album? From various interviews I gather that he essentially wrote It's Not War, SKON, Golden Platitudes and The Future has Been Here Forever all by himself, which to me means that three of the best tracks on the album are 100% Nicky songs (and It's Not War is decent enough).

Bearing in mind that James' contributions include Hazelton Avenue (which is becoming increasingly tiresome), The Descent (which is becoming very skippable) and A Billion Balconies (which is pretty much just an inferior version of Masses), then I would say Nicky has a pretty good strike-rate there, and is becoming genuinely impressive as a songwriter.

If JDB doesn't watch out, maybe we'll see a Manics album written entirely by Nicky one of these days...

None of his contributions impress me as much as the fact that he wrote the music for "Marlon JD".

The Wire should just stick to lyrics in my opinion.

I am impressed with his songwriting ability. I just wish he wouldn't sing.

What the fuckity-fuck??? Nicky wrote the music for the greatest Manics song since 1994???

(Possible exaggeration there, but it IS my favourite song off JFPL.)

So glad that James cleaned up Marlon JD though. The demo version is very... atonal.

The only half-decent vocal is William's Last Words and even that's a push.

I can't believe it never clicked with me that this was why he was on the demo. I had always assumed they were just trying it with him and decided it didn't work in the end.

What a fucking numpty...

Not even Ballad Of The Bangkok Novotel? I loved his vocals on that the second I heard them. He wasn't really trying to sing on that one, though.

I agree about WLW though - I always skip it.

Nope, Nicky wrote the music for "Marlon JD". And it's one of my favourites from JFPL too, a fucking excellent song. James delivers a much more impressive vocal (obviously) but I think Nicky's backing vocal on the chorus really works quite well. Just like his backing vocal on "My Little Empire". In fact, Nicky's singing works best when it's underpinning James' vocal.

Nicky also wrote the music for "She Bathed Herself In A Bath Of Bleach" - although James ended up writing new music for the chorus, because the one Nicky came up with was...well, it was boring frankly

I was saying WLW was good, not that I skip it

Ballad of the Bangkok Novotel is just...I haven't really got any words. I do like his bit in Groundhog Days, though.

I dunno if I'll ever be able to forgive him for not doing the Jay-Z rap at the start of Umbrella...

To say that Nicky "wrote" the music to It's not War is a stretch at best.
