Just been listening to the demo version of "Don't Be Evil" and I think I'd quite like the next album to sound like this. Like it's been recorded in a fucking garage

As long as James sings it all I really don't mind!

Know Your Enemy done better. That would suit me down to the ground!

Yeah, but then that wouldn't have been the Manics would it?

RANT
Exactly the point. Unless they want to whip the auto tuner out, get a guest verse or two from Tinchy Stryder and have Mark Ronson produce half the album, they're not going to get a massive hit album. Many bands would kill for the sales and recognition the Manics already have, and when they realise this and stop chasing a mega audience that hasn't existed for them since around Know Your Enemy we may get another classic. On what planet is Journal For Plague Lovers uncommercial? It's a pretty straightforward rock album, hardly Throbbing Gristle. It's also a bloody good album. Still, the best artists paint a different picture every time. |

I'd KILL to hear a Manics song with auto-tuned vocals!

That's exactly what I think of it. In fact, I reckon some of that album's songs would've been bigger hits than Postcards' singles if pushed in the right area.

"Marlon J.D." would've been a top 10 single. I've always said it.

I'm hoping for a giant eclectic mess. Something that everyone will find something they love on but that no one wont hate at least a couple of songs. I want it to have songs about dead Republican presidents, left wing propaganda, giant bombastic love songs, introspective self indulgent nonesense, obscure covers, covers of chart twaddle made brilliant by them, loud guitars and soft pianos. Something where you genuinely have no idea what the next track will bring. For me that would be ace.

I'm expecting the whole album to be Zeitgeist parts 2 to 8.
