16/11/2011 - Nicky Wire Rough Trade Interview/Q&A/Photo Exhibition/Signing

Probably warrants its own thread.

Quote:
To celebrate the launch of his new book Death of a Polaroid - A Manics Family Album, Nicky Wire will be in conversation with Dorian Lynskey, author and Guardian music critic.

Documenting more than twenty years of the band's career, Nicky Wire has kept a personal visual history of the Manic Street Preachers' various evolutions and travels across the world, right from their early beginnings in Blackwood Wales. Nicky will discuss his passion for polaroid photography and the history of the iconoclastic band, and take part in a book signing following the Q&A.

The event, brought to you by Faber & Faber in association with the Guardian, will be hosted at Rough Trade East, Brick Lane on Wednesday 16 November.

Tickets for this special event are exclusively available to Guardian readers, at £11 or £9 for Extra members.

Copies of the book will be on sale at the event.

Exhibited at the front of the store will be a selection of Nicky's own polaroids, on display from Wednesday 16 - Wednesday 30 November.

They were on sale this morning, dunno what happened.
RoughTrade website says that: ''THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT EXCLUSIVE TO GUARDIAN READERS AND CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE ORDERED THE LIMITED EDITION VERSION OF NICKY WIRE'S BOOK "DEATH OF A POLAROID" THROUGH ROUGH TRADE ONLY'' (sorry about the caps lock, blame it on their website)
and I'm not sure about the access condition. It seems like you have to purchase the ticket AND the £300 book

Cheers for this info Cricri
Oh, well looks like the Nicky event is out if my price range, I'll pop along to the FREE Jarvis Cocker event at Foyles then .....except it looks like I'd have to buy his £100.00 book too...
Cheers Faber and Faber. Nothing like keeping it 'real' and accessible to all. A big thanks to Nicky and Jarvis too - Nothing like 'lyricists' who get their royalties from songs about working class values pricing themselves out of the working class fan market. The irony is priceless (or not in this case)

There doesn't appear to be a link to getting £9-£11 tickets, so I'm presuming these have either all sold out already or you can only get in if you had the £300.00 book as well? I really, REALLY am hoping I'm wrong here and someone will correct me? I was hoping to grab a ticket and pop up to view the polaroids display and then take in the interview? May still head up that way anyway....

I really don't think that the tickets have sold out, unless there were like 30 of them, lol.
Maybe it's just a technical issue?
Anyway, I still can't understand the access modalities...I thought it was my poor English skills' fault, but now I feel relieved

i think i'm going to have to agree there Normally i'm forgiving through all these marketing blunders but this is bonkers if it's true. Can't justify it at all.
