Actually, there is a way to easily convert midis into 8 bit. That Motorcycle Emptiness was possibly done this way too. Not sure, of course.

Back in the 90s we used to download these .MID files to listen to in college in a completely non-ironic fashion; you could pull one of these down in a few seconds whereas an MP3 from napster, if it would connect, would take hours for a single song. And you'd have the dilemma of where to store a 4Mb file whereas you could fill a floppy disk with these things.
