Introducing MSPpedia.org - Manics WIKI and SETLISTS

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today I am launching (on a trial basis) www.msppedia.org.uk - The Manic Street Preachers Fans Wiki. Following the disappearance of Staybeautiful.net some forum users here attempted to enter gigography data onto the main Wikipedia project to give it a new home. Wikipedia proved an unsuitable home for such a large and specialised volume of data and MSPpedia was set up to provide a place for fans to share such information.

MSPpedia uses the same MediaWiki software as Wikipedia and therefore editing should be a snap if you're familiar with Wikipedia.

Please feel free to sign up for MSPpedia, submit and edit articles such as setlists, and discuss those articles on the discussion pages. Signup is required to create/edit at this stage. Comments, questions and suggestions are welcome on MSPpedia (as described on the front page), here, or by email to webmaster@msppedia.org.

MSPpedia is inspired by and dedicated to the Foreverdelayed community.

A suggestion - on the main page - it may be worth having links to the various main catagories for ease of browsing.

I'm fairly sure when I checked a few weeks ago when I was setting this up, that name was taken. Of course, I look like a bit of a ninny now, because it isn't. Oh well!

I don't think there's really going to be a right/wrong way to do things, I think the formats and such will kind-of be developed by the users, within reason. I'll be a hands-on user myself and I hope to make sure that the thing is hopefully useful, and that'll mean doing a bit of organisation myself, but that'll be driven by what the users do and suggest.

It's all a bit experimental at the moment, let's see how it goes!

Maybe the Beatles articles on Wikipedia could be a nice example on how to deal with discography items. Basically every song and album has a pretty consistent layout and since you're using the same software you can easily copy the layout..

Charlie - Are you going to add torrent files to each gig page? I'm assuming there currently aren't many MSP bootleg torrens around, but you might as well add the few there are now and start it going IMO.
