The only post Ive ever laughed out loud to. You should change your username to "Autumsong is the best single since 1996". That is the most incredibly stupid comment I've heard on this forum (and there have been a few). I must go now through your post history to no doubt unearth some other gems. I bet you're one of those thats goes to 3 or 4 gigs a tour!! Classic! You're a real Manics fan! Last edited by Europa Gluten Free; 28-07-2007 at 19:03. |

Funny how some little imbecile gets aggressive because someone else prefers other Manics singles than him.
Why don't you listen to Autumnsong instead? Did I mention it's the best Manics single since 1996? It definitely is. |

Now that poor little wanker has edited its post. *LOL*
It won't get more embarrassing than this. |

2. Throw away lyrics. 3. Which are then repeated in 3rd and 4th verses - a waste. 4. Obvious chord progression for verse. 5. Artificial lead up into main solo which seems like it was fitted in just for said solo. 6. Repeating vocal melody for start of solo - lazy. 7. Live it sounds disjointed - due to the way it was initially constructed. 8. "Done to your-or hair, done to your-or hair" etc...cringeworthy. 9. Commercial single choice by record company. Neither Nick or James mention it as highlight (James initally said he didnt like it). 10. Its the best single since 1996 supposedly. |

I've always found it a bit lol when people start going on about chord progressions or similar music techiness as a reason to like/dislike a song.

It's probs the 6th or 7th best single since 1996,but saying that it's still a corker!

I can't be bothered to read through the bickering. Any idea where it's charting now?

This is a stupid comment. Lancashire Potter is entitled to their own opinion, but attacking said opinion by referring to a post count is bizarre.
Personally, it's one of the weakest songs on SATT for me, but it makes commercial sense to release. Big guitar riff, catchy verse and chorus, euphoric climax etc...it's classic Manics' single fare really, although in the weakest form for me. |

Referring to the post count was in reference to her status as a Manics fan - i.e. she's a regular user and so would have some degree of Manic's knowledge. If thats indeed the case then surely she must be aware of the saccharine vomit that is Autumnsong. You've just contradicted yourself in one sentence and as a result undermined your position. So youre saying on the one hand it is classic Manics stuff - but its a weak song. Make up your mind. But it is the greatest Manics single since 1996. |

200 post? who cares i first liked the manics back in 1995/96 and only posted 200+
i have seen them now 9 times live, james once - two signing sessions, every album and single since EMG era.. missed 3 exams and a wedding (the wedding was not mine) for the manics! DVD and tour shirts the list goes on! I also know that the above is nothing compared to people who travel the world watching the band and various other events! the point is regardlsy of post counts.. every one should be entitled to a views that can be debated.. but post counts irelevent in my eyes Quote:

It is possible to appreciate the function of a song without liking it. The Manics song has all of the afforementioned elements that makes songs like "You Stole The Sun" and "A Design For Life" cross into the catchy pop category. Surely anyone can appreciate that in "Autumnsong", whether or not they like it? There's a tendency for Manics' fans to be blind to commercial needs sometimes - at the end of the day, the Manics are major label and thus one of their functions is to sell as many albums as is possible. As such, surely everyone can see the sense in releasing "Autumnsong" as a commercial tool? The faithful will buy the single regardless, but the record label, and I daresay the band too, want more than this. Even if this means a weak song, this release still has all the characteristics of a good pop song. |

The opening riff fits fine with the rest of the song for me and the song doesn't sound disjointed at all. And just because a song has obvious chord progression and throwaway lyrics doesn't make it shit. I don't find the "done to your hair, done to your hair" part cringeworthy, I find it is genius, the perfect response to all those who think the Manics take themselves too seriously. It's not the best Manics single since 1996 but it's in the top five since then for me.
