I wouldn't count the MJ intros as curios. Besides, I rather hear an original Manics song than the first third of a random cover. They're a nice touch, and I like that they add the different intros onto MJ, but I class it as part of the song, not a curio in it's own right.

I also hate the word curio.

Fair enough on La Trisstesse. Maybe Roses is the rarer of the three from that album. The other being From Despair of course.

Nah I thought the Condemned to Rock n Roll,She Sells Sanctuary and Paradise City intros were cool additions.

Does anyone remember Freedom of Speech..... from the 2007 tours? I think they played it a handful of times and then dumped it, probably in frustration at it sounding so bad. Good song and all, just don't think they/James could get the mix of guitars right. The song's missing some lead guitar.

I saw them do Freedom at Leeds Uni, first time I've heard it live since 2001 I think. Shame it got dumped so quick, added to the exciting additions to the SATT setlists.

I thought the big problem with Freedom Of Speech on the 2007 tour was the backing "vocal."

I love the intros too, my point was that I don't consider them to be unusual additions to the setlist in their own right; they're more just part of MJ.

Yeah, I saw them do it at the opening night in Cambridge. I'm glad I got to see it. It was a shame them dropped it.

Hmmm, not just FOS - I like Wayne, but I wish his backing vocals weren't so loud...

The problem of last few years are Murray and Reed or how is he called. With an exception of JPFL gigs first half which was the best since Naysmith's gone...

Am I alone in thinking they sound better live with backing guitars and vocals (bar a few songs, namely Slash n' Burn and Roses), and keyboards that don't sound like a fairground?

Not at all. Jimmy Boy's got more time for fret wanking now. Next time I see ya I'll have to play you the version of You Love Us off the Dutch Everlasting single. It's got more keyboard than 1972.

Aye, heard it. One guitar and loud keyboards in the kinda venues they played in the late '90s definitely made them sound flatter than your school at times.

Not only has my school been flattened, so has Boothferry Park across the trainlines from it and the street leading up to my school.

But yeah, if they're gonna carry on using keyboards I wish they'd play a few songs that you actually need keyboards for, like everything off Lifeblood.

Backing vocals are apparently very difficult to mix on a PA. They're either dead silent or BAM! rightthereinyourface. Silly soundman. (Good Wayne.)

Turn them up and ask Wayne to stand a metre away then.

Yep, and RITH. His voice just doesn't complement James' at all.

Surely on Roses and Slash N Burn, James could sing the lines himself?
And on SOME songs get Nicky to sing backing more, considering on like ADFL and Tolerate he did do backing. I think the extra guitar is fine, but as I say, I think James could sing certain ones himself.
