Agreed that, although I have no massive issues with Eringa, he doesn't always give the songs the dynamic production that they often deserve to do them justice and it can fall a bit flat sometimes.
Ah well. At least on the next 'best of,' all of the songs will all blend together unlike on FD. There will probably be distinct lack of songs from Lifeblood and JFPL too which is a shame.

There haven't even been that many london gigs - and half of them have been competition only, in which case it is irrelevant where they are. As for international gigs, they are a moderately successful British Band, not U2.

On the more commercial records, i.e. EMG, PFAYM, i think the production works. Stuff that sounds like it was meant to be played on tv, on motd, is exactly the point.

As for what to do now, tour GT.
Primal Scream are, and The Levellers are... (not touring GT, of course, but past work)
Mass communication failed, work for the fans!

Absolutely. The production is awful, takes all the bollocks out of some songs (especially INW). I even found myself really enjoying SKON live, with a little more power and drive behind it. The demos are much better in a lot of cases.

I'd love them to do era-tours, so they just played songs from GT and GATS, then THB and EMG, and SATT and JFPL. And then cobble together a best of the rest from the less good albums.

i think they should do THB and JFPL together even though they played the whole album last year..its that good, do it again. As for the others EMG with Truth SATT with PFAYM and GT and GATS. KYE should be quietly ignored Lifeblood should get a gig all to itself fleshing it out with those lovely b-sides and door to the river, there by the grace of god..no manics its not a shit song.

Isn't he just working according to the Manics protocol though? You can hardly blame him for making the album sound like how they wanted!

The problem is their apparent embarrassment at their early, and then later work.
Sure, GT isn't perfect, but it'd be brilliant. Go on Manics, do it!

I agree to an extent. I have no major issues with Eringa, but they definitely to try some other producers. I think the fact that the (small amount) of PFAYM songs which did get played live sounded loads better than they do on the album goes to show that maybe the production/producer needs looking at.

You've kind of answered your own question there. They had no control over the XFM Winter Wonderland, and many of the other shows that they did in London were/are competition based, hence not decided by the band. They did also play a competition show in Newcastle as well, lets not forget.

The Manics are a difficult bunch because they have these ingrained ideas about how they do things. So I don't think all the pleading in the world is gonna be able to overcome that!

Jeff Lynn would probably give the same overblown production that PFAYM is
