Just confirmed what I always knew anyway: a deadly compact exists between some of their dolt fans and their tiaras, feather boas and 'terrorist' masks, and the band churning out their rock-by-numbers, fearful of not ruining the lucrative formula.

Main lasting impression was of those fawning, sycophantic fans. I either dreamt it last night, nightmare style, or one of them was indeed actually publicly pronouncing disbelief and awe at how 'James can sing AND play the guitar at the same time'. Evidence, apparently, of his superhuman qualities, and a marker of the band's greatness.

A bit harsh really. The complexity of some of the guitar parts James is able to sing over is quite astounding. Live versions of 'Prologue to History' are amazing because of this.

Mind you he has been trying to simplify his guitar playing over the pass five years. Still, James is an amazing combination of rhythm guitar, lead guitar, vocalist and frontman all in one. I can't really think of anyone else I can compare him to in terms of live performance.

Make yourself feel better by watching the Underdogs chapter on repeat.

The Underdogs bit reflected badly on the band I thought. People had a right to complain and not be made out to be tedious pedants.

Well, I think the band can say what they like, but I agree with you in so much as I think even most non-fans watching the film would not be persuaded by the argument that because they made it available as a free MP3 for a short time that overrode anyone's right to have an opinion on it. Or else everyone should love everything they've ever heard but not paid money for... which makes no sense.

I still quite like The Underdogs (like I always have), I just wish the infamous edit was fixed.

Well the reaction from fans was quite harsh as I remember and some of the criticism was a bit unfair. The band made an effort by giving away the track for free (though just on FD if i remember) and asking fans to create their own video. It was an attempt by the band to connect with the fans and it was spat back in their face by some. Plus the lyrics seemed to be attempt at writing a love letter to loyal fans. Considering underdogs is a Sean composition I believe, I'd understand why he might take it too personally.

The track was released as a download on the official site.

FD did post the request for fans to send photos and film for the video.

Wasn't that the time where FD became the 'official' Manic Street Preachers forum very briefly?

I watched it again the other night and wondered if Sean actually wants to be in this band.

Indeed, but not with any consent from FD, lol.

I think the reaction was probably because of the lyrics, lol. Most people don't appreciate being called freaks by Nicky Wire.

Are you '4 Real'? You can't hate them that much because you're always stalking around on this forum!

I think No Manifesto is brilliant, much better than I thought it would be. Surprised at the reaction people have had over the fan interviews though. I don't find them that 'cringey' or anything. My only fault with the film is the segment about Underdogs, which I doubt any non-fan would care about. To be honest I still don't see the big deal.

Congrats to all involved though! Will defo watch it again soon.
