just got this. a bit disappointed, what the fuck did they do with the vinyl packaging? why not replicate the original with the foldout? and if not, what the fuck did they do with the cover? a picture of the cover on the cover? what the fuck?

The reception to the sleeve has been universally negative to the point that Amazon now deceives customers by using a different cover (the front of the box set) on their page for the 2CD set.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Everything-...reet+preachers

Maybe Sony asked them to. Maybe Sony should go a step further and actually use that as the 2CD cover. And having dealt with all the returns maybe even Sony now appreciates what a stupid idea it is to take a 12 inch sleeve and then put a small photocopy of the image on it, defeating one of the main appeals of vinyl in the process.

And an old jewel case on the cover of a CD digipak. Maybe Bowie or Radiohead could have pulled off such a move and have it called art, but no one else's fans are that far up an act's backside.

I see it differently. I like the cover of the cover, from the reasons Hans alluded to and more. And there was already a nice EMG vinyl reissue with the original artwork if one wanted that.

I think the criticisms of the vinyl sleeve being only rough cardboard and discs falling off the foam studs in transit and the less-than-stellar DVD video quality are all fair complaints that seem to matter more to some people than they do to me, but can reasonably be called "quality control" issues. But liking or not liking a cover's design is not a "quality control" issue, it's just subjective opinion, which is rarely, if ever, "universally" anything.

Yeah there was a concept ... we get that but it was shit
I'm more bothered by the quality control issues porco mentioned .. I shouldn't have to fish around looking for replacement sleeves for a 60 quid box set

Personally I think the 2CD or 2CD & DVD box sets are the best. EMG 10 and THB 10 were definitely in that category. I don't think anyone would mind the reissue if there was something substantially new and of note in there. EMG 10 had the Design for Life initial playthrough along with rejected mixes and demos. That was worth the cost of the box on its own. So to have something 5 x the price of that with nothing particularly of note. If a TIMT 2CD comes out, you'd think it would do well if it had that kind of curio included.

Other examples of cracking re-issues I've seen: all the Pulp ones, Weezer - Blue, Ash - 1977, and In Utero with a completely new Albini mix. All with enough interesting new stuff, B-sides and collected "stuff." I'm sure they are all, but these all felt well worth the money, because there was at least one CD full of stuff that was worth the price.

For all the grumbling people have bought them. Still a shame that the band don't seem to care about their product anymore. The booklet is full of nothing really (going by the youtube review).

Like others I liked the 10th anniversary reissues

The shoe box and now vinyl versions are flavour of the month rubbish. Give it a couple of years and all the hipsters will have moved from vinyl again, it's just a fad

The media have predicted the death of vinyl for over 30 years now. Probably time to rein that story in!
