It has better production, rhythm section, and doesn't sound like it was recorded on a broken 10W practice with a 2nd hand Squire knock off. Would have loved this to have been a single but I'm a bit tapped.

Edit: It also sounds like it has no place on this album. Would have been a fantastic stand alone single.

I suspect ,and they may have said, that it started as a song from Intimism and was 'cherry picked' for this album. The demo might be interesting to see how it begun (or it might just be very similar based on previous 'studio' demos). I agree that a radio edit would have got some attention but I would have felt very sorry for anyone buying the album just based on it alone. Then again, who buys albums anymore other than fans ?

On first listen it's the only song to 'grab' me , although I also enjoyed the last few minutes of One Man Militia, I just didn't expect it to end when it did. I need to let this play in the background for a while I think to appreciate the second half of the album more.

I won't say too much about the album until people get access to their copy but yeah it hasn't really grabbed me except for the bookends. It doesn't feel indebted to any other Manic albums, not quite a sequel to PFAYM (other than front loading the singles which hurts the flow I feel) but something different which is where I'll leave it till it sinks in.

Technically, Dear Stephen would count as a diss track so perhaps a direction of travel for album 16.

Blood Records version has arrived, & it’s really well done (the black dust effect of the clear LP in particular). Got number 126/2000
Bonus 7” also arrived, & will both get a spin later tonight.

So the sample just before D&F is from Creeping To The Cross by That Petrol Emotion (credited in the liner notes).

Complete bundle from the official store now shipped too.

So people a little underwhelmed by the album so far? Or do we think the 2nd half might be a bit of a grower?

MSP albums always take awhile to sink in for me, I just have to keep playing them on repeat until a groove starts to develop in the old brain

I also think it will be a grower. It's a bit of an odd listening experience with the first track being such an outlier and the 'singles' all being bunched together (even more than usual).

There are definitely some tunes on the second half but I would say they are less immediate. Will take a bit more listening for me.

Does anyone know what is their logic behind putting all the singles at the front of the album?
