I hope they do something like this. Maybe not 70 songs but a double or triple album more in the crazy vain of The Clash, The Fall and Public Image Ltd. I hope after PFAYM they do something crazy in a we don't give a fuck way and forget about their age insecurity. It would be the best thing the Manics could possibly do after some flat albums in the past decade or so barring JFPL. It could work in a destructive, experimental and crazy Sandinista way which is a great album with some of the Clash's best stuff on it. I like bands who recreate themselves and experiment and who don't give a fuck.

i'd be happy with an album of just 10 or 12 songs of a band that just does what they want without worrying how it'll be recieved..doesnt have to be a double ...triple would be waaaaay too long and quality control would dip.

Do you think James will have softer vocals on this album? (to save them getting blown out on long tours? )

I'd be up for it, at least they'd HAVE to experiment and push the envelope. I've had enough of straight up 10-12 track albums from them for now, I'd rather they learn from the mistakes they made with KYE and do a proper splurge of an album. It can't be worse than PFAYM anyway!

Look at it like this: if they do a 70-track album, you might end up being able to compile a 10- or 12-track album where all the songs don't sound like lazy remakes of old songs, but you just know that the vast majority of the remaining songs would be no better than SATT.

They will then play three of those songs on the album's tour.

I reckon IF they did a 70 song album (which they won't, let's face it), I'd imagine perhaps 10 would be covers, 10 would be instrumentals and half of them would be about 2 mins long and pointlessly forgettable.
Also I'd imagine it'd take them bloody ages to get 70 songs written and recorded. I don't fancy waiting 3/4 years for a new Manics album

As much as I want this to happen.....I have a feeling this wont happen. If it does...watch them disown it within a few months.

"After this, the plan is to a make great, sprawling, insane triple album"

On the evidence of this statement coupled with Wire's usual prediction for the next album, the only thing i can guarantee is that they will not under any circumstances make a great, sprawling, insane triple album.

Haha laughed out loud now when I read the title was more or less confirmed... But surely the 70 song thing isn't true? That would be crazy.

I'd love them to actually follow through on this. Some mad crazy middle age folly would be totally in fitting with their career so far. Please guys...

It just struck me how terrible this album could be. I'd rather they took a longer break than they were planning than come up with something bad.
