That's exactly what I was thinking. SEAN, IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE.

I'm well excited about this album! Apparently enough to start posting regularly on FD again...

Interesting, they're stepping up the hype then. How big is the feature? Any choice quotes?

I'll quickly wrap up some of the key quotes/info from the article for you.

Song titles revealed:

As Holy As The Soil

Rewind The Film - a duet with Richard Hawley which is apparently a 'majestic mix of Scott Walker singing Love's Forever Changes as the suns sets over a Welsh seaside town'.

Four Lonely Roads - a 'rolling Valleys stomp reminiscent of The Beatles' Two Of Us'. Sung solo by Cate Le Bon.

Show Me The Wonder - 'brass heavy potential first single which has JDB doing his best Vegas era Elvis'.

Thirty Year War.

In terms of the records lyrical focus, 'there's mortality, world travel and the small matter of the last three decades of British politics'.

Key Wire quotes:

"It's frightening to think how we'll play it live. On the up side, it means me and Sean can sit in the dressing room for half the gig while James does all the fucking work!"

"People expected me to be banging on about Thatcher when she died, but everything I thought was already in Thirty Year War, a song we wrote six months ago. It addresses everything from the roots of Thatcherism through Hillsborough and Orgreave, right through to now."

Also mentioned by the writer in the feature is that, 'once mixing is completed, the Manics will finish work on Rewind The Film's companion record - a set of "schizophrenic European sounding songs with a proper Manics energy"'.

Cheers folks.

Thanks! While I'll be tempted to disown Four Lonely Roads as a 'manics track' I'll give it a chance before dismissing it cause I love Two Of Us. Wonder if we'll get Bradders solo acoustic gigs or 2 sets.

Thanks Nikolai!

Surprised they've let Cate sing it solo, I assumed there'd at least be an element of duet in there... how's it going to feel like a Manics track or fit on the album if James isn't singing at all? Odd choice.

Sounds like a great deal of it is properly one-man acoustic though, which as mentioned previously in the thread will either soar or flop.

The "companion record" sounds better and better the more we hear.

It's not going to be just james and an acoustic guitar. Acoustic can mean an extremely rich sound full of different, unusual, instruments. I am happy that the electric guitar isn't at the forefront of this first album. It will be very different for the european album.

Well I'd say if it's sung in tune it could sound more a Manics track than one of Nicky's vocals… Also, you never know, they say 'solo' but they might just mean the lead vocal… it might still have backing vocals by James and/or Sean and/or Nicky.

On this, I would guess it could be the difference between playing live and the recorded version… for example there could be light percussion and bass work on the studio version that just isn't necessary when playing live… also, it doesn't mean others couldn't be with James… (keyboards… strings… guest singers/musicians… ). It'll obviously become a lot clearer what that quote means one we have heard the album.

James has already said about 'the band driving the songs', I expect about a 50/50 split of songs with drums/bass and songs without

Sounds plausible to me, I was thinking about the same. There's obviously going to be plenty with a lot of production, but they've said quite a lot to indicate there's going to be a significant slab which will be very stripped-back.
