I wanted to hear another very politically charged album but to be honest, I've been a Manics fan for so long now, Nicky's harping on has gotten kind of tedious.
I feel it's more for the young to put their anger at the government and the world and how it's run into lyrics, ( ) is right.

I still like angry and loud, but that paired with politics is a no-no for me. They're too old IMO.
Less heavy political songs would be okay but not THB esque and not an entire album.
Maybe a track that's a bit KYE-ish, toned down so middle aged men don't sound like tits playing it.

they've always had politics in their songs in one form or another... Nicky writes lyrics from a social historian perspective... what should they write about? You can still be interested in the world in your 40s, 50s and beyond. Rewind the film had songs looking at getting older more suited to their age and you didn't like it

I meant like very intense political albums. Like GT/KYE/THB.

I'm not even sure what I want to be quite honest Anything Manics-y and I'll probably like it. I do love Nicky's lyrics, really.

At this stage in their career they should celebrate the success of this album, it terms of history of the band its the album that changed everything for them.

I'd love an album like that! Perhaps not as messy as KYE but in the same vein. Maybe they'd play Dead Martyrs live (finally)!

This, Nicky's lyrics not political to the average joe on the street so unless you are well read would mean nothing to you anyhow.

Lyrics matter. JDB wasted his time writing a good tune for Intravenous Agnostic.

Anyhoo, with EMG having four big hits, they could be a bit more courageous with the second set and throw in some of the album's b-sides. Mr Carbohydrate in particular would deserve to be played on any such tour.

For me if I don't like the tune I won't listen to the song however good the lyrics are. Agree with the rest of your post tho So many good b - sides it would be a massive waste not to play them.

I definitely don't agree they're becoming a museum band at all. There is nothing wrong with a band celebrating their past work and I think the album sets are a great way to do this.
agreed - plus I'm a deep cuts guy. I appreciate ADFL and what it did for the band and it is a corker don't get me wrong...but so many of the tracks on that album could/should have been singles.

Further Away was a Japanese single but not released over here and its a mega track, no surface all feeing (while played live at times) is not given the hearing it should have live, removables should always be played live

Yep, that's always been how I've felt too. I can cope with not-so-great lyrics if the tune is great, but not the other way round.

Would kill to hear Black Garden live! Maybe Nicky is good enough to play the bassline now, no chance he played it in 1996!

Probably not live, but in studio it's very likely that he played it/could play it. Not too hard (tbh Sleepflower is only a bit easier and he could do that fine)
