I really like this album. Every track on it, in fact. Current favourites are Auto-Intoxication, Some Kind Of Nothingness, Golden Platitudes and A Billion Balconies Facing The Sun.

Thought I'd give props to I Think I've Found It as well, seeing as it doesn't seem very popular.

I've heard it a few times now and I really like the album.

Here's how I would rank the songs at this early stage:

1. Postcards From A Young Man
2. Hazelton Avenue
3. Auto Intoxication
4. A Billion Balconies Facing The Sun
5. Don't Be Evil
6. Golden Platitudes
7. All We Make Is Entertainment
8. (It's Not War) Just The End Of Love
9. Some Kind Of Nothingness
10. The Descent
11. The Future Has Been Here Forever
12. I Think I've Found It

All We Make Is Entertainment reminds me of something, and it's annoying me because I can't place it. I'm sure it's something I've heard a million times in nightclubs.

Still haven't heard the title track but here's my order of the 11 I have heard.

1. All We Make Is Entertainment
2. Auto Intoxication
3. A Billion Balconies Facing The Sun
4. Some Kind Of Nothingness
5. The Future Has Been Here Forever (but for the record, I don't think it's sounds *right* on the album)
6. Hazelton Avenue (the chorus isn't great though)
7. Golden Platitudes
8. Don't Be Evil
9. (It's Not War) Just The End Of Love
10. I Think I've Found It
11. The Descent

I know what you mean! The chorus sounds like a popular song but I can't work out what either.

Perfectionism could potentially come into place of course, and that is a whole different ball game, but I think a band who has the intelligence to manage those conundrums successfully meets a measure of a great band.
they could have taken another year to make this album but it would still have underwhelmed because what they're trying to do is fundamentally uninspired. from the second you hear the phrase 'mass communication' alarm bells started going off, and then in interviews it's like 'Journal For Plague Lovers was an aside, this is the 'proper' new album after SATT'.

i'm sorry Manics but whatever the circumstances behind JFPL's existence, you do not write what is almost universally considered to be your best album in more than a decade and then pretend it doesn't exist when progressing on from it. it's ridiculous. Richey might have written those lyrics but those amazing riffs, tunes and performances on Journal were what they came up with as musicians in 2008/9. i don't believe some kind of magical talent button has randomly clicked off now. but i do think their music is directed by intellectual concerns not artistic ones and on this occasion they have badly misjudged the climate. basically Nicky Wire thinks that the Manics should take a stand against the internet and make a pompous rock record with some grizzled veterans while appealing to the kids, and he's totally huffing on his own ass gas.

Chorus and the end remind me of Badlands by Bruce Springsteen.

I'm having some trouble with it.

There are some good songs, (after a lot of listens) It's not War, Hazleton Avenue, The Descent

But the rest of it is pure SATT.

If the objective was SATT2, and it would seem that it was, then objective achieved.

I just would've liked more stuff of JFPL-type depth in the music.

Still, all MSP records are listeners, so I'll continue to put the hours in.

On Hazleton Avenue: what's the song all about? The guitars are amazing.

The Beatles are one of my favourite bands, no doubt about that but GP could have gone with a longer singalong outro like Hey Jude
