It wasn't long ago that there was talk of 'a different singer in the band' and rumours of James not singing anymore, so it's not completely unexpected

I'm really excited by this record. Hopefully it'll be a little bit self indulgent and be something different compared to SATT/PFAYM ie: slightly different musical structure and maybe lyrical content. I wait to be proved wrong!

Rewind The Film - a duet with Richard Hawley which is apparently a 'majestic mix of Scott Walker singing Love's Forever Changes as the suns sets over a Welsh seaside town'.

Four Lonely Roads - a 'rolling Valleys stomp reminiscent of The Beatles' Two Of Us'. Sung solo by Cate Le Bon.

Show Me The Wonder - 'brass heavy potential first single which has JDB doing his best Vegas era Elvis'.

Thirty Year War.

In terms of the records lyrical focus, 'there's mortality, world travel and the small matter of the last three decades of British politics'.

Key Wire quotes:

"It's frightening to think how we'll play it live. On the up side, it means me and Sean can sit in the dressing room for half the gig while James does all the fucking work!"

"People expected me to be banging on about Thatcher when she died, but everything I thought was already in Thirty Year War, a song we wrote six months ago. It addresses everything from the roots of Thatcherism through Hillsborough and Orgreave, right through to now."

Also mentioned by the writer in the feature is that, 'once mixing is completed, the Manics will finish work on Rewind The Film's companion record - a set of "schizophrenic European sounding songs with a proper Manics energy"'.

Cheers folks.
I fuckinh hope Thirty Year Year is not as clunky lyrically as S.Y.M.M

That is a very interesting view on the song, fella. Very insightful. I like a lot of S.Y.M.M but I think the last lines are clunky and as much as you provide a solid argument as to the meaning, I think it could have read much better. That's just me though.

Anyway back to this new album...

I really, really, really wish the Cate Le Bon was not included on the album. Yes, I know I haven't heard it and can't really judge it but it does not feel like a manics album if James doesn't sing vocals on all tracks. It's a petty worry granted but I already find it jarring. I don't care if musically it is amazing. I do not like her style of singing.

Thanks!
Can't wait to hear something new!I've always hoped they would make an acoustic album. The only thing I really don't understand is why put on the album a song which is entirely not sung by any of the member of the band.I find it very strange.

I understand many of us love James' singing and how that is an essential part of why we love the band's past work, but am I the only one who thought Kylie's Some Kind Of Bliss sounded completely like a Manics song with a female vocalist? I think people are getting too worried about James not singing on every single track. Of two upcoming albums which are probably to be released within relatively short succession.

Gruff Rhys made Robeson a much better song at the o2 gig. I'm not worried. Unless you totally hate someone's voice it doesn't matter if you don't like their product as they'll be singing manics songs.

I CANNOT WAIT for this. Is it September yet?

I don't disagree, but I don't think it would have worked on This Is My Truth. I'm not against songs with different vocalists, but I'm not convinced they could work in the middle of an album almost exclusively sung by another singer. So it might be a great song, but it might interrupt the flow of the record, something which is very important to me.
