Wow, this turned into quite a thread.
For what it's worth, seeing as I put "Just no" after my reporting of Wire's comments, my thoughts are that the band have always done a great job of not exploiting the legacy of The Holy Bible and it would be a shame if they started now by using it to get a high-profile Glastonbury gig. It's their's to do with as they please, of course, but it means a lot to me (and plenty of others too) so we're entitled to hold an opinion. That's not to say the Manic Street Preachers aren't perfectly entitled to hold and act upon an entirely contradictory opinion if they so wish. And having said all that, I'd rather see them play Generation Terrorists anyway! |

I wouldn't really see it as exploiting the legacy of the Holy Bible. It's their legacy, they made it, can't really exploit yourself? I've seen people on here slating Postcards From A Young Man, and fair enough, each to their own, but they talk as if that album taints the rest of them which I don't understand. They've made my favourite album of all time and a few of my other favourites, they're there, even if they brought out an album I really didn't like or pulled a few stunts that didn't sit well with me it wouldn't effect my opinion on the music beforehand or its legacy. Short of coming out as nonces, neo-nazis or murderers I don't think there's anything really that can harm or cheapen their legacy. That said, Generation Terrorists would've been interesting. Wonder what they'd have done for Repeat Stars N Stripes, just play it over PA and go for a piss and change or summat? Eh, I think if they do Glastonbury (whether it's a Holy Bible gig or hits set) they'll probably be either 3rd or 4th down on Pyramid, or headlining or sub on Other.

The story of Lauren's fight for the power to become the rhythm section of one of Britain's leading bands.
Speaking of which, she replayed DFL, from yesterday on her show today.
