It's a great album, but I can't listen to it - reminds me of my granddad too much and feels like a kick in the heart everytime I hear it.

As a number of others have pointed out, RTF really is the perfect Sunday morning Manics album.
It is a little too uncomfortably melancholic for me otherwise.

At the time it was released I made my own version of the album mixing the finished songs and the demo versions I liked best. I might go back and listen to that track listing again.
But as many have said above, it came out at a weird time in my life (which of course is no fault of the band!) and so I don't know if I need to go there again. It's weird how much I/we associate Manics albums with periods of our lives. The band hate Lifeblood, but it came out at a magical time in my life (Winter 2004 was the best winter) and so I love listening to it. I guess that is the beauty of music. |
