Think it was always going to be No.2 which is the natural home for Manics albums. Two consecutive No.1's would be too much positive feedback, don't want them getting too relaxed. Wasn't Carpenter's album out before February 1st anyway?

Sure.
Not saying it looked like Japan on the video. My comment was actually completely unrelated to the video. Just a thought of mine, the way it makes me feel.

In my mind, I see the guys, one by one, then all together, walk like silhouettes, with travelling Welsh scenery filling those silhouettes in some stylised background colours. The walks interchange with some quick close ups of famous photos of the band, but drawn up in the art style of the cartoon itself. Also, the walks would be a bit frontal, a bit side viewing, a bit diagonally placed etc.

They should have just sucked it up and stuck with the original date. Coming second to new album by a huge star like The Weekend is far better than coming second to a special edition rerelease of an album that’s already sold hundreds of thousands of copies.

In an alternate reality, My Brave Friend could have been a 60s pop song. I can hear The Walker Brothers, or heck, even Roy Orbison, singing it in my head.

Getting a no.1 album by gaming the charts is a meaningless thing anyway. I was sickened at the band making a big thing of it the last time. If a band can't get to no. 1 with a one standard release of an album it doesn't deserve to be there anyway.

The cliff that TUVL sales fell off after week one when all the diehard fans had got all the variants they could buy shows this.

I know this is pretty easy to fake, but it was the Japanese number plates on the cars that made me think that they went all the way there

I was wondering why Being Baptised wasn't a single. And you'd have to shear the first 40 seconds for possible radio. But... It's impossible to take a second from it.
Oh well about chart position.

Yeah pretty sure it's Docklands area, looks like the O2/Millennium Dome in the back of this

It's sounds like a 70s classic, something I've heard before. It's probably been plagiarised from something else but it's just very familiar sounding. Can hear hints of late 70s George Harrison during the guitar solo.

Just noticed something - when you see the rear of the cars, the number plates are blacked out (using a very UK-sized black rectangle) or just out of shot

The Thames it is. Thanks all.

3 minutes in seems to confirm it was shot on the Thames (or at least James didn’t shoot her down! )

It's a typical tactic in the music industry though isn't it? Taylor Swift released more than 30 different variants of one album and placed exclusive songs across some of those variants, and of course her star power far, far, far exceeds what the Manics have. I'd be more tempted to buy every variant to get every individual song available than I would be to just get a variant because it has a unique vinyl colour or cover art.

Fully expecting the £4.99 reduction on iTunes today... maybe the demos or official digital versions of the two 7" tracks tacked on too to justify another purchase...

sadly yeah. With Ms Swift, it's even more cynical as she doesn't need any help to shift millions of units.

If i could paraphrase; 'I would prefer no choice. One standard, one deluxe, one vinyl, that's all'
