Am I the only one who really can't stand the chorus in The Descent? It's hideous! The verses are allright, but the chorus.. So predictable I could have guessed the next line in it the first time I heard it...

I must admit, I have laughed at the descent/sense rhyme. Musically, it's great.

The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever is the one that's been stuck in my head most. I don't think that's the terrible thing half the people on here might think it is...

Next single, I reckon. Give Nicky his spotlight moment in the Top 10!

After about 6 or 7 complete listens my favourites are: 'A Billion Balconies Facing The Sun', 'I Think I found It', 'Some Kind Of Nothingness', 'Auto Intoxication' and 'Golden Platitudes'. '(It's Not War) Just The End Of Love' has started to grow on me now as well. On the whole I can say that I LOVE this album.

The only one I literally despise is 'The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever'. Nicky should NEVER be allowed to sing on album tracks and c'mon, lines like "Like The Godfather 3, I never can escape..." just do not cut it I'm afraid. It actually makes me angry! Always skip it.

I see what you mean, there are a few 6th form poetry moments on the album (that line about useless jobs making useless lives or something), but at their best I think the Manics can sing the most ridiculous 6th form poetry with a straight face and get away with it. The strength of the music on the album, I think, carries it.

I just have to come on here every day and say how much I love it. Cos I do!

Oh, but could Nicky complete this worksheet before the next album, though...

At least the Godfather III line didn't sound as bad on record as it did on Twitter.

Save us all. It (the future has been here forever) is a mess.

My opinion... Musically and vocally the album is excellent; the 1 or 2 nicky musical moments are drab and his vocals should be outlawed, but other than that... fantastic. It's a different story when it comes to lyrics however... they range from pure crap and cringe to plain silly to pretty good. The quality of the lyrics just isn't consistantly good enough and haven't been for a while.

Maybe I'm the only person who would welcome the next manics-related album to be a James solo album. I enjoyed his album more than the last 3 or 4 manics ones and enjoyed his gigs more too.

in Hazelton Avenue I always expect Jamesy to sing "I'm a happy camper" instead of "consumer", makes me laugh every time

I hate it too. I think it's really awful.

I'm struggling to listen to this record all the way through for a second time...

LOVE this record! And I was very worried when they announced it would be "one last shot at mass communication", following on what SATT did... SATT is by far their worst album, very uninspired and dull... Not bad (I don't think the Manics have ever released a truly bad record), but just painfully mediocre. Only has two or three good songs. And (INW) JTEOL got me even more worried, wasn't very fond of it, although it ended up growing on me. Thankfully, turns out the lead single was the worst song on the album!

PFAYM is completely delightful pop/rock music! There isn't one song I dislike! And the sequence that goes from SKON (magical song) to AWMIE (tracks #3 to #10) is one of the strongest they ever had! If I had to point something out, it's that the way the tracklisting was put together makes the record a little bit anticlimatic.

Best songs: Some Kind of Nothingness, Auto-Intoxication, Golden Platitudes, A Billion Balconies Facing the Sun

Also pretty f'n great: Postcards From A Young Man, The Descent, Hazelton Avenue, All We Make Is Entertainment

And this is how the album ranks in my MSP discography:

1. THB
2. EMG
3. TIMTTMY
4. JFPL
5. LB
6. PFAYM
7. GATS
8. GT
9. KYE
10. SATT

A lot of people seem to not like The Descent, from people's lists/ratings.
