not necessarily. What about bands that have male and female vocalists that swap songs on an album? Or even just male singers. The members of Queen used to take turns on songs and those albums work.

My problem with another vocalist is that inevitably it'll be played live sung by James and we'll all be 'oh I prefer it with James, can't they have just recorded it like that'.

Knowing their past odd decisions they'll probably release it as a single

I agree.I can't say I dislike the song before I can listen to it.What actually makes me hesitate is how a track, which is entirely sung by a singer outside the band, would fit in the album. Also,I didn't know anything about that Cate Le Bon so I went on yt and from what I heard I don't much like her voice.

Pink Floyd used guest vocalists on Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here. It didn't do either of those albums any harm...

And then there's Velvet Underground & Nico. And Johnny Cash singing on a U2 album. They're in good company. The album currently at no.1 in the charts is full of guest vocalists.

Well, I'd just like to mention as an example Boy Cried Wolf.
Listening to Manics' B-sides, the song Nicky and James made up for this artist to sing on is included too and it's not really so big of a distraction.

Finally, someone who gets it. SKOB sounded like a EMG song to me.

Here's another:

Can't wait to read the full version of this Q article. Sounds like the band have really gone for the shake-up they needed, my hopes are getting higher and higher.
