Or longer, something like the Stones or The Who. I don't think the Manics will ever become a heritage act like they have, although granted they are somewhat younger

The Cure and Bruce Springsteen have both played full album shows at the same time as having a reasonably frequent rate of new releases (although in the case of The Cure at the moment it has been a longer wait for the last album than previously). I don't really think it's a case of nostalgia vs new material.

I guess as a fan it's hard to judge, because personally I'd like to see them do Lifeblood and Know Your Enemy all the way through more than Everything Must Go (although I'd like to see that too) but there's probably very little demand for that.

I think they're doing everything we could reasonably expect them to do. Some nostalgia and lots of new stuff, backed by lots of touring.

Might be a good point actually. Some bands (Weezer and Primus come to mind) make a habit of playing a "classic" album, alongside a set of new ish material. Good value for the fan, and probably good fun for the band.

Nevermind EMG, I just realised in 15 years of being a manics fan I have heard live just 5/13 this is my truth songs...that's pathetic for such a big selling album

I can't think of more than 5 songs off that album I'd want to hear live! Unless it was an entire acoustic set... and even then, it'd be pushing it!

Completely agree there. I think I've heard 7 over 20 gigs since '98. Would love to hear Be Natural or Born A Girl (acoustic maybe). Lots of underrated album tracks on there.

Taken me ages to get to seven tracks. I love this album, would welcome it live more than EMG. Including SYMM.

So how many extra musicians would they need to recreate the whole of TIMTTMY?
Yeah, they can play the big singles well enough in a five piece band, but how arsey is "Be Natural" going to be? (Maybe get a member of the crew to rush onto the stage and take the melody horn off James before he plays the riff?)
Or will it be the 5 piece band with some backing tracks?
Probably the later but this is a good few years away.

Any TIMT tour would need the Nasmyth for gratuitous synth sounds...

Can't believe I've only seen Everlasting full band twice compared to.. god I don't know, probably 30 acoustics. You Stole The Sun acoustic was fun though... So lucky to have gotten Black Dog On My Shoulder in Leeds last year, even made going to Leeds worthwhile.

What is it, I'm Not Working and Be Natural that they've never done? I'm sure I read summat about James saying he wanted Be Natural to be the come back single. Then again I'm sure I've read the same about SYMM, Prologue To History...

I'd definitely be more gagging for a This Is My Truth 20 than an Everything Must Go 20 though. Everything Must Go has always been better represented in the sets. I remember walking out of the rescheduled Birmingham Postcards gig and realising that that night they'd done more Everything Must Go than Postcards, the album they were supposed to be promoting. Silly billies.

If they do EMG, that means they can't end the show with Design For Life, which has become such a staple for ending a show, it would be weird.

They'll probably end with If You Tolerate This as they do on the continent. Can kinda see why, they tend to see A Design For Life as a very British song, but that hasn't stopped them closing with it across the pond.. Would expect Tolerate anyway

?

Every time I've seen them in the states (born in UK, but I've lived in US for most my life) they've always ended with DfL, never with Tolerate.

Aye, I said they say it's a British song but that doesn't stop em closing with it across the pond... I suppose the other side of the coin is Tolerate is a more European song

I wanna say there was a period where it was 'You Love Us' that was the set closer with 'ADFL' as (typically) the second to last song ... during EMG touring ('96/97)??? Was the set closer for the big NYNEX gig in Manc in '97... so that might be a/the likely candidate for closing sets for a potential EMG20 tour.
