It’s a very quick listen isn’t it!
Which songs are the pseudo manics reunion ones?

A Perfect Place to Grow would have happily sat as the first song on Rewind The Film.
I think my contention with this album is pretty similar to my feelings towards Resistance is Futile. It's clear this is a collection of songs written over a period of time spanning different either side of momentous life events. As good as the songs are, the album lacks cohesion and an identity in and of itself /pretentious twaddle.

Have to say i'm loving it overall, it might lack the punch of zeitgeist but at that point we had no idea what to expect. I could do without the jazz fusion minstrel experimental stuff but there are some lovely melodies in here and i may agree it lacks some sort of cohesion, unless that cohesion is melancholia eternally because it's got lots of that. I listened to the stream a few times but it compresses the backside out of it so get the download, it's superior.
Stand out songs: BALLAD FOR THE BABY BLUE YOU WEAR YOUR BROKEN HEART LIKE A DRESS WHITE MUSK UNDER CALIFORNIA SKIES KEEPER OF THE FLAME TACTICAL RETREAT SAUDADE AS THE LIGHT FADES AWAY Why the all caps, nicky? Love the clarinet on white musk. I also think saudade sounds like concrete fields, but i've always liked that song so it stays. The album doesn't outstay its welcome by any means.

As the Light Fades Away keeps turning in to Cum on Feel the Noize in my head - the 'And I don't know why' melody is very similar.

We are still waiting on this section, it's gonna be badass. But while you wait perhaps you would care to peruse the lyrics for 'Underdogs' and 'Your Love Is Not Enough', from the album 'Send Away The Tigers'. |

Mitch Ikeda says here that the Japanese version will be released by Sony music
I wonder if it already has - and whether that's a physical version, and/or whether there's a typically Japanese extra track

I think Nicky said during an interview over the weekend that Sony Japan had approached him over it and he was mulling it over so I guess we might see CD a release in a few months. (is there a vinyl market in Japan even?)

A Perfect Place to Grow is incredible. Don't know about the first four. Conctact Sheets is pleasant but the following three were so and so.
Let's see about the rest. Edit -- help me check the lyrics A PERFECT PLACE TO GROW Silence fell again I barely filled my lungs I stood all alone Trembling like a bird In the summer sun So walk with me again Down through the doors of doom I will wait for you It won't take us long It won't take us long A perfect place to grow A perfect place to show A perfect place to hide A perfect place to lie A perfect place for you A perfect place for me A perfect place to rest A perfect time to test A perfect way to go A way to show your soul A perfect place to grow Like a labrador Just lying in the sun You're looking so happy Content and beautiful Like labrador So all of the best songs That a man can find Are fuelled by hatred Hate for my own kind Hate for my own kind Last edited by Marat Sar; 06-07-2023 at 13:30. |

I'm calling it for white musk being the most poignant thing on the album. The lyrics are one thing but that clarinet... that clarinet just elevates it into the saddest thing. Special.

For context, that's Clara Jones there, playing on her dad's song for his mum and her gran.

to my ears, A Perfect Place To Grow shares a fair amount of DNA with the demo of Divine Youth...

My only problem is I can't share individual tracks. Because White Musk. It's so beautiful.
It's a better Sunny day album than IKTZ. |
