That's exactly what I did too. Feels like my opinions change just as frequently as the Manics release a new album. Strange that ;-P

1 The Holy Bible - flawless
2 Everything Must Go - triumphant and tragic 3 Journal For Plague Lovers - mix of love, responsibility and bewilderment 4 This Is My Truth - Like waking up with a hangover after a funeral 5 Lifeblood - Unfairly maligned 6 Generation Terrorists - cocky and arrogant but inconsistent 7 Postcards - not feeling it, maybe its a grower 8 Gold Against The Soul - Some brilliant lyrics, but some shoddy tunes 9 Send Away The Tigers -Loved at first, but kinda rusted over for me since. 10 Know Your Enemy - Would've been better as an EP.

1. The Holy Bible - flawless genius; greatest album ever and every single aspect is absolutely perfect - the lyrics, the music, the imagery, everything
2. Journal For Plague Lovers - Almost flawless, except She Bathed Herself In A Bath Of Bleach is ruined by Britpoppy music, and William's Last Words just isn't up to the standard of the rest of the album 3. Generation Terrorists - I'll never forget seeing Motorcycle Emptiness on Raw Power when I was 11 and thinking it was a brilliant song, planting the seed of my lifelong obsession. A couple of average tracks, but it epitomises everything that was great about their early career 4. Lifeblood - fantastic album, they should have progressed from this, rather than regressing back to their earlier sounds just because the stupid public didn't love it as much as I do. Emily is shit, though, and I could live without I Live To Fall Asleep 5. Gold Against The Soul - some great personal lyrics on this album, hinting at what would appear on the next one, but also a few lyrical misses. Great album to play on guitar. Bit short though, and including a few of the b-sides would have made it a far stronger album 6. Know Your Enemy - their Sandinista!, and as such, never gets boring. But a few of the lyrics are poor, and I just can't be arsed with So Why So Sad, Royal Correspondent or Let Robeson Sing 7. Postcards From A Young Man - solid, consistent album, so far Hazleton Avenue is the only one I can see myself getting bored of anytime soon; but no real standouts either 8. Send Away The Tigers - some great songs, but also three of their most annoying ones (the singles) and fuck off with your "hidden" tracks, especially when they're covers of songs written by Beatles members 9. This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours - some excellent songs, but overall too much production 10. Everything Must Go - I just can't be arsed with most of it, and they picked up bad habits with this album that they've never fully shaken off

His mind would be awash with bad metaphors, unsustainable reactionary opinion, and one long anecdote about the time Comedy Dave put pound coins in the urinal. In short, the man who had read everything published today, would be more stupid than a man who had read nothing." - Stewart Lee |
