Anyone meet them after and get out of them what's next live-wise? Surely they're not taking the next 6 months off until Futurology? I was too knackered/hungry to hang about

After 5 minutes with the few still chatting to the two (Who were the ones patting & stroking Sean's hair?!) I looked past & saw Mr James Dean Bradfield with three people yapping to him. Over I went and he was his eloquent best, saying he's glad of the day's rest so he can give his back a rest. It's funny, when you get near them, all the questions you want to ask are forgotten & you then sound like a babbling loon! Same happened when I met Radiohead. Yet again, last night, they surprised me. The Ritz used to be a grab a granny club, then on Bank Holidays, a Northern Soul all nighter. But last night as Wire admitted, a crowd louder than Wales. A perfect venue. Oh, lastly to the knowledgeable blonde. Cheers whoever you are!!! |

Excellent. Tell her she was crap in 'Resurrection of the Daleks'. I'm sure it still haunts her.

She was on BBC Breakfast this morning, I dare you to go up to her and say "now would you like me to be the cat?"

I also had a fantastic night, and the Manics Family gathering afterwards was fun and bizarre in equal measure. Rachel was beyond fantastic company. I make all the best queue/barrier buddies these days.
I'm too tired to talk about any of it though, really. And I think we can all agree I've gushed quite enough about this tour already. On the train to Glasgow now!

Oh my... definitely up there as a contender for my best ever Manics gig, this one. And certainly my best ever first song - the crowd reaction to Motorcycle Emptiness was just something else and James was clearly blown away (I'm terrible for remembering exactly what people say but something like, "So this is how it's gonna be, is it Manchester?").
Brilliant to have Sleepflower. The crowd singalong to Can't Take My Eyes Off You was just ace - and hearing that live just takes me back. Elvis... SKON into As Holy As... But yeah, just being in a crowd that all seemed to know and love everything was so great, especially after Fest No6 which was inevitably something quite different, crowd-wise. My friends were a bit further back and had more of 'drunken idiot' crowd experience, but my bit was just universal (maybe a bit drunken) elation. Made up for Slatex on his mention too I did hang about after, but it's not for me to meet them in that big crowd situation. I made myself useful taking possibly the best pic ever (even if I do say so myself) of Franny with Sean in his stylish T-shirt with check-suit jacket combo. By pure chance though, bumped into James as we walked to the venue. Not-on-FD Tom got him to sign his ticket and engaged him in a brief debate as to the best city for bands (Tom argued Glasgow and Manchester, James made the case for Sheffield with a rather unconvincing argument based around Heaven 17). I, meanwhile, stood there giggling. Of course. Loved the FMF meet up after too, you lovely, lovely lot xxxx

Cos, you know, I prefer the one-on-one type meets that happen all the time... ha. The crowds of fans were actually pretty scary though - never actually witnessed that before!

Well Manchester was certainly loud and full of energy last night! Easily the best crowd on this tour of the dates I've done (total contrast to Portmeirion with the bloody kids on the barrier) and quite possibly the loudest crowd I've ever experienced at a Manics gig. It was nice to see everyone so appreciative right from the start and the band seemed blown away by the response.
Also the best (and longest) setlist of the tour for me too. Was great to hear Can't Take My Eyes Off You and Sleepflower again, as well as Ready For Drowning and 30 Year War. Wish they'd played all of Tokyo Skyline, but part of it is better than nothing. Rewind The Film live sounds better with Richard Hawley; this was the first gig on the tour I'd been to without him and it just felt a bit flat compared to the other gigs. Also think not playing Running Out Of Fantasy in the acoustic section at any of the gigs but carrying on playing The Everlasting was a missed opportunity, but never mind. The crowd singalongs for The Everlasting have been fun to be fair and I enjoyed James' extra ad lib acoustic strummings. I'll post some photos when I get home on Monday, although have a feeling they won't have come out as well as the other gigs, as we were further to the left hand side on the barrier this time (and my camera was being a bitch and changing settings by itself...time to buy a new one I think). Quite glad we were at the side though, as the crowd were going nuts in the middle and as nice as that was to see, I was enjoying having the freedom of space and not being squashed Didn't hang around afterwards to try meet them; I thought about doing it, but tbh I've kind of done all that now. I've got their autographs shitloads of times, had multiple photos taken with them, don't feel the need to do it after every gig. Plus I guessed there'd be a big crowd, as there always seems to be when they play Manchester. Sounds like they'll be back in Manchester next year, judging from James' "See you next year" comment and Nicky's comment on their Twitter today. Fingers crossed, I want more crowds like last night's! |

first time i saw them in manchester. It most definitely won't be the last! Even half way back where i tend to have a bit of a shit time because of people to-ing and fro-ing to the bar, it was brilliant. It was ridiculously hot in there, even my hands were clammy. Had to bail and get some water half way through rewind the film. Was sleepflower the next song cos i barely remember it. Too busy re-hydrating.
I didn't find the crowd after the gig too bad tbh. It was much more relaxed in bristol but it was still ok. Tried to get Marwood to go up to Nicky but no chance |
