I've listened to it twice, back to back tonight. I think it is quite good. Something different from what they've done before. It is always good when a band experiments.

Ha! Ha! Glad it wasn't just my hearing playing up or something!

Surely not poppy and arty farty GATS? And McFly WISH they could sing like JDB! ( I'm just ribbing you Sue! )

Pretty much how I feel and there are still a couple of songs and some lyrics that I'm not too keen on at this stage. I honestly don't feel the guest artists add too much to the songs and that Four Lonely Roads would have been a better choice for Nicky's vocals. I didn't buy the deluxe version, but have heard a couple of the demo versions on Youtube and have to say that I prefer them to the album versions (Builder of Routines and Tokyo Skyline are the two demos I've heard).

It certainly has the feel of some of the songs on his solo album.

Just heard Tokyo Skyline on 6Music and it clicked with me in a way it hadn't before. The songs definitely take a bit of time to sink in.

Heard all the demos now and must admit that I prefer a number of those versions to the ones that appear on the album. I like the stripped back feel of some of the demos and just can't help but think that the album versions ar just a bit too over produced.
I do really like Show Me the Wonder, but am beginning to think it may have been better as a standalone single and not been on the album. |

Is every album going to be accused of being Overproduced?
I would say that the addition of instruments on the main album adds to the sound rather than specific sound engineering! The band clearly were aiming for an epic sound on some tracks, so if that's their vision then the production is fine - it suits the epic moments. I really don't see this album as overproduced at all - PFAYM yes, his one no way! |

this album is in no way overproduced. You can hear in the demos that the songs are unfinished

Listening to AHATS I get the impression that they are trying to say something about Richey between the lines, like "We know You can hear us" or is it just me? In that way, it's almost a "feel-good" song.

It's beautiful, really made up with it. Sullen Welsh Heart is my clear favourite, then a toss up between As Holy As The Soil and 30 Year War, AHATS is the best vocal Nicky's done. The lyrics are also some of the best he's done, think it'd be a missed opportunity if 3YW wasn't released.

Lady Lazarus is still my fave Nicky vocal (if I'm forced to pick one! ). But yes, plenty of beauty to be found on RTF!
